Default Good article - but gives insight on last year's lack of effort

Overall good article. But notice that Bentley said that Hurst was the only guy to spend extra time in the weight room last year. This year, he says, everyone is. Disappointing that this was the committment level we were at, but good to see that we are better at it. Guess that was part of the being soft that Muschamp spoke of.

Yep, have a good crop of leaders on the team. I want to shout out BAW as well because he is putting in work and is a good role model for the younger guys to learn from.

The buy-in of the players is there and that is awesome to see. They are getting bigger, faster, and stronger. Just need them to keep working and dedicate energy to studying the tape and play book as well.

There was a lack of talent on the roster, but there was also a lack of effort.

Glad to see that there are players taking charge and that the others are buying in.

Sadarius Hutcherson. 560 lb bench press.

He could lift the rear end of a VW Beetle clean off the ground.

This lack of effort translates into playing soft which Muschamp has repeatedly said.

This is something that this team has lacked for the past several years. It's great to have players that lead by example but you also have to have some that will get on players for not doing what is expected of them when your goal is to win championships. Thankfully we now have that and the players are buying in to Boom's mentality of toughness, discipline, and dedication. This is what will be the difference maker between last years team and this years.

I really dont believe there was a lack of effort. I do believe that lack of depth and injuries to go along with a new coaching staff and its philosophy made it look like we had lack of effort on the field.
You just cant plug and place a new coaching staff into a situation with players that have never played under said staff. Players learning new philosophy, terminology and postition shifts can make it look like they were not giving it their all. Not to mention half of the season was played with out a starting QB.
We had a big learning curve last year that the team eventually mostly over came and turned in some good effort and wins. Some on here seem to think we had players not trying or didnt give a crap. That is bullchit.
Sure, there probably was a few players here and there that kind of went through the motions but lets remember there was a lot they had to learn and absorb over a short period of time. Im pleased with the out come of last year as far as what was improved and how it got improved. The coaching staff got 6 wins when most folks were thinking we would not even win 4 ball games.

Yep....didn't that team fight and claw a win v. Vandy to start the season, then have a big come back in the bowl game? Lots of other issues can be viewed as lack of effort, especially if a player is not that good or just unsure of themselves.

On the field, maybe. It was pretty evident that a majority of the team wasn't honing their craft in their spare time last year. The commitment level and work ethic in year 2 seems to be light years better already, and I know having great leadership on the team helps that.

Not a lack of effort on the field. As Bentley mentions in the article, no extra effort off the field. That translates to what you do on the field. Too many players had the Allen Iverson approach - preparation doesn't matter, only what you do in the game. It seems to be getting more to the Michael Jordan approach now - prepare so hard that the game is easier than practice.

Not trying to derail or bash the previous staff, but this is a top down issue.

It's nice to have someone who's a natural leader and has very deep personal motivations. Like, I bet Shaw or Lattimore didn't have to be instructed in college on how to lead by example. But they aren't the norm. Leaders are molded by their surroundings and coaches. I'll leave it at that.
