My personal opinion is that Muschamp is ours for as long as USC would like, as long as the paycheck is in the vicinity for a few reason.

Like someone said, Muschamp has experience first hand the painfulness of a 'blue blood' program. Get us to the point that Alabama or Texas or Michigan would want him as a coach, and he'll be a god here.

And then on the other side, would an AD be willing to bet that he'd be Muschamp from USC or from Florida?

I can see NFL before if he gets tired of dealing with recruiting and boosters, but it sort of seems like that's a strong suit for him. Doubt he tires of it.

Some of you worry too much.

The blabbing about him likely leaving us for a "blue blood" isn't based in reality....it's opinion from a writer who just doesn't think we're good enough of a program to "deserve" having a superstar coach.

It's fear....fear that he's building something special. They saw what he did at UF, having to cull a bunch of Urban's thugs, then restocking a defense with NFL talent. They saw his shortcomings on offense that were exacerbated by massive injuries, and they see how he learned from his failures by quickly and systematically rebuilding our offense.

More importantly, they see how quickly he changed out Sr's antiquated 1990's way of operations, and revamped/updated almost overnight every single piece of our program.

It's fear, guys...nothing more, nothing less. They WANT him to go to LSU, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, wherever...the farther away the better in their eyes.

Muschamp isn't going anywhere if he's successful. He's staying here, he's going to kick ass, and he's going to rub it in the face of every detractor who said he wasn't worthy of another high level coaching job so soon after being fired at UF.

And that also goes for the idiotic posters on this board who are still somehow butt hurt because we hired him.

The negative recruiting against him is real. It's based on fear....some of the coaches negatively recruiting know what he's capable of building, they're trying to stop him early, they're trying to knock him down and prevent him from getting that foothold he's getting.

There's a reason two highly rated in state defensive players, one of whom is one of the top rated guys in the country, mysteriously received scholarships this year to IMG. When has that happened before?

Last year we had a very good DT from the state of Georgia that was planning to sign here flipped back to UGA at the last minute by his HS coach, who reportedly stayed constantly by his side beating him down until he finally signed with Smart.

It's fear...it's palpable. We're outworking other staffs, we're offering guys early that no one has heard of, only to see their recruitment explode....we aren't getting all of those guys, but we're making headway. We win, we'll get more of those guys, and that's what those writers and coaches are scared of...they see what he's building.

He doesn't need to be at Oklahoma, Notre Dame, or LSU...he's here. And they're all worried.

......Well done....You can also add to this wonderful post that CWM won 6 games last year with a depleted player base and a high school QB...Think about that for a second.

Your first gig has a head coach is always tough. Going to UF for your first gig, where expectations are higher than most places, makes it even tougher. Yes this team was 6-7, but you have to look beyond the record.

I have full confidence in Muschamp based on what we have seen so far. Even going to the Birmingham Bowl was huge for the program. I have confidence that under Muschamp, this program has the potential to be a consistent winner.

I was on the fence in the beginning,, but I like the cut of his jib even after last years lack of pride { I feel } that was exhibited by the players. That being said he can only tell them what to do. Its up to the players after that. He's a hella recruiter and seems genuine in his desires to make us something again. I think he builds a legacy here. And those take time.

Couldn't have said it better. Many teams around us don't want him to beat the odds because a successful Gamecock football program is a huge fly in the ointment for them whether they're in the SEC or ACC. We'd rock the boat and make life hell for them on the field and the recruiting trail.

As much as I loved the hire, we will have to fight to keep him if he is successful here. We don't have the history of Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Alabama and so on. We won't lose him to North Carolina or Ole Miss but we are not an Elite program. The reality is that we have been Elite for 3 seasons in our history and have never even appeared in a BCS bowl. Sometimes when you are to close to a situation, you lose perspective. If a traditional power calls, he will listen.

Muschamp was the coach in waiting at Texas and the HC at Florida. No one here knows what his ultimate goals are. He may want to be the coach at Notre Dame, Ohio St or Alabama. That may be his ultimate accomplishment.

If he gives us one SEC title along the way, that would be good enough for me. Until then, he will make our program better in every way.

If a coach is successful you have to fight to keep them. This is of course why we lost dawn staley and frank martin.

Last game out we lost to USF.

Let's wait for him to win more than 6 games before we talk championships. As far as I'm concerned he's in the same position as dabo after 2010 (minus the div title in 2009). He's gotta prove himself.

I recall there was an article similar to this in The State newspaper in 1966.

Understandable but this feels very different. I can't remember many coaches we've had who have thrown so much into our program in such little time. We've had successful coaches here but few if any of them seem to have their finger on the pulse of what is happening in the sport. Joe Mo is the closest I can think of. Spurrier of course brought us success but we all know how adverse he was to change.

Exactly!

I've been laughed at by Clemson fans, but I keep telling people, that within 5 years, South Carolina will be a football powerhouse. I think people know it, but think if they deny it, it won't happen.
You ain't seen bad, but it's coming!
