Actually you're quoting the minimum for players on the 53 man roster, average practice squad salary is a little over 100k. Still damn good money but I'd take my chances if I were him and see if a better situation became available. A team like Seattle or Buffalo with a mobile QB would make sense.

They can pay practice squad guys whatever they want. If they can keep Connor there, then they have their 3rd guy already in camp and can activate as needed. Win-win. But Connor has a good chance of being claimed off waivers.

If Glennon doesn't shape up, I'd consider letting him go and keeping Sanchez as #2 to Trubisky. Sanchez might be better than Glennon? But I doubt it goes that way.

Glennon's contract is fully guaranteed this year so I doubt they'd release him. They'd be able to save about $1 million by cutting Sanchez. I think the ideal scenario for Chicago is that Trubisky progresses well in practice throughout the season and Glennon plays well enough to trade for a mid round draft pick since he'll be under contract another 2 years at an affordable rate.

Yea...Glennon was supposed to be their guy. They may keep Sanchez, but he's a guy they can resign if needed if injuries occur. Still will be interesting to see how Trubisky develops for them.

Unless the Bears suffer an injury at quarterback, he likely won't make the regular-season roster, as he's currently fourth on the depth chart.
I believe he won't get much PT in the first two games regardless because the Bears still need to evaluate the guys they spent more money on.

He will be back in a rhythm and the same old Connor and blow everyone away the last two games. The fans will cheer him if other QBs continue to stink it up.

For better or worse, Sanchez is a known entity and is too expensive for the practice squad, so I think he's gone and Shaw stays.

I also believe a fair amount of Bears' fans are eager to see if Shaw can pick up where he left off last year. Their starting QB position is not set in stone by any means.

Not how it works. Sanchez is not eligible for PS. There are rules.

Even if Connor is eligible for the Bears PS, he may get claimed off of waivers before he gets resigned and wind up elsewhere. Sanchez would likely get signed elsewhere as well if the Bears cut.

Not even sure if any team would put an older player like Connor on their PS.

That is correct but practice squad salaries are counted against the salary cap which means teams aren't usually going to pay those guys too much. Minimum is $6,900 per week or $117,300 over the course of the season, but they can be cut at any time.

"To protect their players from other teams, or because they really like the potential of a given player, some teams pay their roster squad players significantly more. There is no limit to how much a team can pay a player on the practice squad, although the practice squad contracts do count against the salary cap.

The Patriots for example are one NFL team that consistently goes above and beyond the minimum practice squad rate. At certain points, the Pats have paid their entire practice squad weekly rates above the minimum salary. In 2015, the Rams paid supplemental draft pick OT Isaiah Battle $25,588 per week, which adds up to last year's $435,000 rookie minimum over 17 weeks, the highest amount ever paid to a practice squad player.

The upside of the practice squad is that if a player is called up to the 53-man regular roster, either by his own team or by another team, he automatically signs a contract with the $450,000 minimum NFL salary. And because three weeks of that contract are guaranteed, even if that player is released, waived or traded before the three weeks are up, being called up comes with a $79,411 guarantee (3/17th of $450,000)."

If Connor doesn't make it with the Bears, think he'll stick it out in the league or possibly move to coaching somewhere?

Long-term, he's a practice squad QB or 3rd string at best. Unfortunately, these are not stable roles and you're likely to get replaced by younger and higher upside options.

Thankfully, Connor surely doesn't read the negative BS posted by many "fans" on this site. Connor is still only 25 years old--with most of his playing career still ahead of him--and the only thing that has kept him from becoming, at the very least, a solid #2 QB in the league, has been injuries. Period. He may not have the ideal measurables teams look for in a "franchise QB", but he has EVERYTHING they look for in a #2 QB: smarts, accuracy, a blue collar work ethic, a team first attitude, savvy, discipline, a knack for moving the chains when called upon, and a hunger to win football games in any way possible.

If he can stay healthy for any length of time, he will become someone's #2 QB. Because the NFL is obsessed with measurables and prototypes, he will likely only start when injuries occur...but you can bet your ass he's going to be ready to seize the moment when it happens.

But only with a team that's not searching for their #1 and drafting QBs in the 1st rd. Last season should have been a good situation for him, but he got hurt.

I thought someone could only be on the practice squad if they were in their first 2 years in the NFL. That would make Shaw ineligible right? Or do injuries play a factor in that?

I could also just be flat out wrong lol.

Edit: So I looked it up and a player can only be on the PS for 3 years Maximum. The 3rd year is only guaranteed if the team he is on has a full 53 man roster for the first 2 years. Year 1 with the Browns definitely counted against him, but years 2 and 3 may not have since I'm guessing he was on the IR.
