that latter part of last year he really improved. Silva was great in the tourney. If Thornwell hadnt gotten sick i believe we wouldve been in the national champ game.

Not to take anything away from Chris, but I attribute part of his improvement in the tourney to the officiating. In a typical game, Chris would have maybe 1 'legitimate' foul, plus 1 or 2 'headscratchers', the latter being dumb plays like fouling a poor-shooting power forward 20 feet from the rim. He worked harder to clean those up and improved toward the end of the year, but he needs to continue doing so this year.

Frankly, the other fouls often weren't his fault, but rather were the result of SEC officiating, which is terrible and situational (ref: "umm - there's a guy on an open breakway dunk and if Silva actually blocks it when he shouldn't have then it's a foul even if Silva made a great play and didn't touch the guy"). He was, in some cases, just way too athletic for officials, got a somewhat-deserved reputation for fouling, and they hung him out to dry. The same thing happened to Carrera and happens to other athletic hustle guys, like Chris.

The good news is that as Chris becomes more established this year and cuts out the dumb fouls, these other fouls should go away and he'll be on the floor more. He's a better shooter than many people give him credit for, and I agree with others - I think he's going to have a monster year, especially if we can get any kind of effective outside shooting to open things up more for him.

I believe the two Grad Transfers and other 5 new players have large potential for assisting in that area.

Both the transfers have good FT numbers and Holden looks like he can penetrate and dish pretty well. How long before they start official practice and does anyone know their off season routine ?

Last year, Kotsar (listed during his recruitment at 6'8" to 6'10") showed up and was a legit 6'10". This year, we are losing inches.

Doumbia was supposed to be 6'7 - 6'8 and is listed at 6'6", Beatty was 6'2" and 6'4 and shows up at 6'2", Haase was supposed to be as tall as 6'10" (also got written up at 6'8" and 6'9") and is 6'9".

Doumbia is athletic enough to play some #4 but his future is at #3. Beatty is still a #2, but it makes sense why Martin was trying to add height with Minaya and some of the grad students. Haase is a #4, maybe spelling Silva.

Very excited to see the news guys - they may not be that long in inches (well, except for Cudd) but I think they will be long on talent.

That may be a concern if we were needing those 6-9 guys who are really 6-6 to be our depth in the paint, but Gueye and Cudd are legit 7-footers, Kotsar is 6-10, and Silva and Haase are both around 6-9. So we still are pretty deep in bigs. I understand that Doumbia is similar to Carrera in that he has a long wingspan and great hops plus a good instinct for rebounding, so even at 6-6 he may end up being a strong rebounder/shot-blocker. Now whether or not Gueye and Cudd see much floor time this season is another topic to discuss.....

6' 6" may have been generous for Carrera - if Doumbia is legitimately in the 6'6" - 6'7" range, with wingspan and hops, he can still help inside. It will be hard to match Carrera's strength and energy, though.

I see Gueye getting a few more minutes - maybe 10 - 15 - but still being a back-up, with Cudd playing even less due to strength and stamina issues.

So we will see a lot of Kotsar and Silva, with Haase backing both up. Silva would move over to Center when Kotsar comes out. And we will see Doumbia some at PF along with Gueye at Center to give us the needed depth.

Way too early to tell but we played our best with a 9 man rotation at the end of last year (Silva, Kotsar, Thornwell, Dozier, Notice, McKie, Felder, Gravett, and Keita) so I imagine the 9 man rotation this year could consist of Kotsar, Silva, Haase, Doumbia, Gravett, Beatty, Holden, Booker, and Myers. Very thin in the post unless Gueye is ready to contribute. I doubt Felder plays this season but I expect him to be back with the team. Basically taking a redshirt.

I think most everyone will play up to a certain point in the season.

Things will skinny up midway through conference play.

I keep forgetting about Myers since he was added late in the process. I agree that he will be in the mix and will make it easier to let Felder ait out the entire season.

However....Felder is talented enough that we need him and his transgressions are not serious enough to warrant a full year. Basketball Redshirts are rare except for very raw bigs and even then that does not happen much (see Gueye last year). So I think Felder comes back this year. That will enable us to go with some three guard line-ups and have a pure PG to break the pressure in SEC games.

Indeed, they were DISMISSED, it doesn't get any LESS serious.
