Even numbered years seem to be our best shots at the East. We have UGa and UT at Home and Vandy and UK are road games. Our toughest matchup is UF on the road. Plus, our non conference schedules are cupcakes + Clemson. Expectations should be sky high next year.

Very disappointed.
Those games against teams yall think arent worthy....are HIGHLY valuable to developing young players by getting them playing time. Also helps guarantee a bowl game...which is like a 2nd spring practice...aka development of players.

We dont stock 5 star guys 3 deep like Bama or...face it..like Clemson. We thrive on developing 3 stars and others. Jake Bentley debut was vs UMass. Should've been against Oklahoma or Florida State instead. Sure he would've got his brains beat in and possibly destroyed his confidence and maybe he doesnt recover. And yeah we wouldn't have made a bowl and would've missed out on those 3 weeks of extra bowl practice that helped develop him and other players.

By by golly...you'd have gotten a better opponent for your ticket money. Thats a better trade off and we'll get used to having to wonder why we have juniors and seniors who play like sophomores because they never saw the field as freshmen and sophomores. Because by God we dont wanna spend our ticket money watchin no Louisiana Tech or Umass.

*By the way...thats half of Notre Dames problem. They play almost no gimme games. And as a result...they dont develop younger players as quickly.

In 2018 we get Georgia in week 2. We WILL have and need some freshmen and sophomores start and play in that game. Sure will be nice to break em in week 1 vs Coastal right? Oh no. Lets drop Coastal and break em in vs Ohio State or Michigan instead!!

Yep. 2018 could be special. We'll have some freshmen and sophomores that need to play next year. Especially on defense. Im glad we open with Coastal before UGA. Get them some game experience vs a near certain win. Build some confidence.

Plus, we get GA before they have a chance to gel which has worked for us in the past.

Yeah, we have eight Senior starters on D right now. We also have three Seniors on the O Line (two veteran starters), plus we will probably lose Deebo and Hurst.

Boom has done a good job of bringing in talent and the next class is shaping up nicely also. And we still have enough Offensive players returning to be good there. But we need some young defenders to step up.

YIPES!!!!!! I didn't realize we are losing so much. I think we have good back ups for Deebo & Hurst, but who do we have as backups for those others we are losing?

I am a big believer in what we have been doing on the O Line - bringing in adequate numbers and bringing them along slowly - so I think we are okay there. We are losing two Guards and our Center. Sadarious Hutcherson will move into the starting line-up at Guard, with Stanley at the other Guard. Another option (assuming he returns) is to move Bailey back to Guard (or Center) - we have Daley, Malik Young and Camper at Tackle so we should be okay there.

The staff really seems to like Farrell at Center, but they will identify a recruited player or two to join him - remember that we have a nice Freshman class on campus that will RS, along with some RS Freshman (like Hutcherson) that will get PT this year as reserves.

And we are fine at the skill positions even if Hurst and Deebo leave.

Defense is the bigger concern. Three D Linemen, two LBs, three DBs are gone.

Boom has recruited well but we need immediate help from JUCOs because of the experience factor. Kinlaw, Nixon, Chalmers, Montac and Eldridge Thompson are already in the mix and we have Ellis (DT), Barkley (DT) and Character (DB) coming in, possibly Saivion Smith (DB) and Dorian Gerald (DE) as well. That should provide some much needed experience as the youngsters develop.

Brunson, Wonnum, Sherrod Greene and Jamyest are already looking like future stars and Jaylin, Tavyn Jackson, Sterling and others are waiting in the wings. We will be okay - the talent is there - but might take some lumps early due to the experience factor.

Yep. Which is why its SO important to have games like Coastal and Wofford. There is simply no substitution for game experience. Its a different speed. Different feel. Otherwise its almost like throwing a guy into UFC who has trained a ton in the gym but never did any lower level pro fights. Disaster.

But...some will complain that we play these games instead of stacking our 4 game OOC schedule with Clemson, Oklahoma. Michigan. Southern Cal.

We need to actually be good enough to be in the playoff picture before we start worrying about strength of schedule. I have no problem using OOC cupcakes to help us out a bit in the meantime.

Something I've realized over the past few seasons is that recruits don't care about SOS. They just want to see a team win, especially in front of a great crowd. If we can build depth selling these wins over a few cupcake teams here and there that's fine with me. As long as we don't have a schedule full of these cupcake teams we're golden. A few cupcakes and a few tough teams should do the trick. From there we can talk about scheduling more games against tough OOC opponents.

I agree. I'd like to see some intriguing matchups. Instead of NCST or UNC, how about Va Tech or UCLA or something new.

The consensus in the thread is we do not need to play those type teams now.

Exactly. It all depends on what a program is trying to accomplish. We need to become totally established nationally before making our schedule harder. We already play one of the top 25 schedules every year now.
