Default USC receivers had lowest drop rate in SEC

Dropped only 2.7% of passes all season. They clearly aren't what's wrong with the offense.

That's because so many throws were either at their feet or 5 yards over their head. Most of the actual passes that were completed were of the 5 to 10 yard variety.

Another bogus stat that tells 1/2 the story.

But no, the receivers were rarely the problem and anyone that actually watched the games this season should know that. I can only think of one game where we had a good many drops that may have affected the outcome of the game and even that's a stretch.

BS stat. But yeah I would be cool with McClendon getting a lifetime contract.

How is it a BS stat? It proves that if a ball is relatively catchable, our receivers will almost always catch it. It's a great stat for our receivers. Not so great for Jake, since some fans are so quick to blame dropsies for any and all QB issues.

Meaningless stat.

Does it define what a catchable ball is? Many times, as already mentioned, receivers had balls at their feet or up the ladder, many times left vulnerable while over the middle.

Still, the WR blocking was improved this year...sign of McClendon's value.

The problem was inconsistent play-calling and lack of execution either along the Oline or at QB.

I don't think drops are the problem. Getting off the line and getting open in patterns before your QB gets killed is a problem. Not having someone open and having to throw a short catchable pass is a problem. And of course over throwing slow receivers down the sidelines is a problem. Without Deebo the only speed threat we had was a true freshman.

Well, duh. That's the whole point. Our receivers catch catchable balls. Unfortunately Jake doesn't always throw catchable balls. Frequently he doesn't.

Aren't we also assuming that the receivers are running the right routes or getting the appropriate depth on those routes that are run?

A dropped catch is the receiver's fault. Not being able to catch the ball because it's thrown way over the receiver's head is the QB's fault. They've got to get in sync. Maybe they can for the bowl game. We'll see. I won't hold my breath.

The same folks who say this is a meaningless statistic are the same ones who would throwing our receivers under the bus if they had the worst drop rate in the SEC. They are also the same ones who blame every one of Jake's incomplete passes on the receivers.

so you are saying that Jake's completion % would be lower if it were not for our good receivers?

McCleadon and Stockstill were/are the best WR coaches wee had in a long while with bubba being a close third.

I agree with McClendon and Stockstill, but the third wouldn't even be on my radar for being a great WR coach.

I saw OrTre drop 3 passes in one game. That was a problem in that particular game.
