If we want to be a program with return trip to the Final Four here is what needs to happen.

- We need to recruit players who can contribute at a competitive SEC level their FIRST year. Guys like Thornwell, Dozier, Bowen, Silva etc....

- We need high 4* and 5* guys like everyone else AND WE MUST keep more of the in-state high rated talent. Getting a 5* out of NC or FL or NY will be MUCH tougher than getting the in-state guy.

- We need to continue to recruit well abroad in Europe, Canada, and South America. (by that I also mean find the guys from Europe who transferred over here for their Jr and/or Sr year of HS, like some of our guys did.)

- Attention Bagmen: HELP!! All of this stuff will blow over. It may even scare some circles who were pinched or thought they were close to being pinched....but this too shall pass. Warren Buffet's favorite time to buy stock is when everyone else is selling/not buying. That's how the rich get richer.

- AD Ray Tanner needs to Do Better for our program and be a better advocate...period. SC not getting an NCAA Tournament invite in 2016 was a complete f***ing joke. We were 22-10, 3 wins against ranked opponents and beat several of the teams selected for the NCAAt that year. First P5 team with 22 wins to NOT make the tournament. Mizzzzzouri, aTm, bama and florida got in this year with 20 wins or LESS!!! Hell, OKlahoma and AZ State got in with 18 wins! We need Ray Tanner to be a better advocate. Also, when another team's AD tee's off on your coach, and you try to handle the right way, but the AD tells you to 'eat s**t', you need to take the gloves off and stand up for your coaches. I don't have a problem with how he first addressed the situation, but he fell on his face after it. Ray Tanner doesn't serve at the pleasure of the SEC Office, he serves at the pleasure of our Universtiy Pres, the Board and the fans. This year, we got snubbed for the NIT, Ray should have fought like hell to get us in there. We were NOT a good team this year, we didn't deserve to be in the NCAAt, but we were d**n sure better than most of the NIT teams.

Those are the major things that would have a big impact and we could launch right away.

Chuck Martin is doing a great job recruiting since he was hired. He might be the boost in recruiting that Frank needs

I believe the implied was that he would make offers sooner and therefore would make evaluations sooner.

The way you make it sound, it's like Frank's heading over to the Publix and reading labels, sampling products, and making a choice over 20-40 recruits. We don't have that many top talented kids that interested in playing for us. I don't see the harm in heavily recruiting talented kids in the state from day one and assume that maybe we'd get one of them. I'm pretty sure that even if we're late to the game, we could still outrecruit teams for players from community college, Canada, and overseas that no one knows about.

2016 was a complete case of blueblood wearenotitis! Any other school with that exact record regardless of when the games were won or when we were hot or not would have been in the NCAAT!

I think we were a better all around team in 2016. Could you imagine Thornwell and Carerra playing in the tournament together with the emotion our fans brought in our tourney run last year?

2017 was Thornwell and rotating 2 more players having a decent game in every game. Thornwell sits out we lose, Thornwell fights flu up to day of final four he plays the most lethargic game ive ever seen him play and we still almost make the title game.

Well, I think if you analyze it the very best teams tend to be the ones with the better players. Of course coaching and game management come into play, but having the best players really counts the most.

Fans are fine. Program's effort needs to be spent worrying about improving the team. Accomplish that and the fans will follow. The tail never really wags the dog no matter how badly you want it to.

I actually like our bigs even when Silva gets gone. Kotsar really came on down the stretch and he had a Silva-like improvement with his FT shooting. Haase has a nice stroke and Cudd got some valuable PT that will pay off next year. Throw in Minaya and Bowen at the wings and you have a realy strong front line.

Guards are the problem. Rah will help, Gravett will be better, but we really need to get something out of Beatty and Cousinard. Or maybe Holden gets it togetter and returns, or we can find a e recruiting steal, or a transfer.

You win at crunch time with Guards. Booker stepped up this year but we really needed a PG.

One positive - we will not be nearly as young next year. Frank's strength is developing players over time and that makes it tough when you have 8 newcomers on the team.

Collin Sexton from Bama is 6'3"/190 and not much bigger than our own Gs.

The difference is Sexton has moves. Our Gs don't.

Can you let me know exactly how much I need to cheer or which shirt I need to buy to get Hassani not to blindly toss the ball out of bounds? Or keep Kotsar from ever putting the ball on the floor?

I think some of us are forgetting that a lot of parents appreciate Franks coaching style and mentoring approach to teaching young adults.

The primadonna's who were never told no by their parents aren't coming here, and that is perfectly fine with me. I don't enjoy watching those types play anyway.

But, we can get the real "college athletes."

I know. It's so painful to watch teams like Duke, UK, and UNC play. I'd much rather watch a team struggle to hit the 60 point mark and try to keep the other team from scoring than actually making baskets. And all the wins and national titles? I'd take a NCAA bid every 10 years to that and hopefully a NIT or two thrown in.

I see where a couple of posts are counting on Bowen to play next year. I hope you're right but I am not counting on him ever wearing the Gamecock uni to play. He might get clearance from South Carolina but I don't think the NCAA will ever clear him to play college basketball. Our guard play was poor at best. There were improvements but I think the long season wore us down. We got out rebounded all over the place the last 3 weeks of the season. We need a true point guard and someone else to step up besides Silva. We are still a young ball club and I admit it takes a while to learn Franks system. But I believe we will be better next year.

The beauty of Notice and Thornwell is that Frank could play them at multiple positions because of their defensive ability and not lose any shotmaking or ball handling. He had that type of player in Kansas State by the name of Jacob Pullen. To me, this is a big thing that we lacked this season.

We need more two-way/multi-dimensional players and less specialists. Go out and find as many Notice's, Thornwell's and Pullen's as you can find. Players in that mold will get this program back on the right path

There would have to be proof that Bowen got money from someone to sign with Louisville. But Bowen has denied getting any money. USC thinks that Bowen received no money. We'll see if the NCAA can find any proof. If they can't, they will have no reason to make Bowen ineligible.

Agree. Chuck is a great addition to our staff. Overall we were a very young team this year. I look for much better results next season.

Frank is a defense first coach and I like that. Many others are also. Brownell at Clemson also fits this bill, Huggins and many others. The big difference between us and Clemson this season was Clemson had some very good 3 point threats who could also drive to the basket, get fouled and make their FTS. Give me a team with great defense, good 3 point shooters and great FT shooters and I will show you a winner. We need much better guard play in handling the ball, good shooters and good FT shooters. I like our bigs in Silva, Kotsar and Haase.
