Default ***I Am Iron [Wo]man - Golf 2016-17 Season***

An unusual Sunday-Tuesday tournament to start off the new season

http://www.gamecocksonline.com/sport...092416aaa.html

South Carolina is set to open its season this weekend at the 2016 ANNIKA Intercollegiate. The 54-hole event, which is hosted by UCF at Watson Course, takes place Sept. 25-27 in Reunion, Fla. This fall marks the third appearance at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate for the Gamecocks.

COACH Kalen Anderson ON THE EVENT

"We are excited to compete after several weeks of practice. The ANNIKA showcases the top teams in the country, and it is a good way to see where we stand early in the year. I'm excited about the depth of our team. It's the most depth we have ever had since I have been here. That will prove to be a very big advantage, and the players will continue to push each other to get better."

BREAKING DOWN THE FIELD

Eleven of the 12 teams in action at the 2016 ANNIKA Intercollegiate finished last season in Golfstat's Final Top-25 poll, including five programs ranked in the top 10. Three schools, UCLA (No. 1), Southern Cal (No. 2) and Duke (No. 4), rounded out the spring listed in the top-five, and 10 of this weekend's participants qualified for the 2016 NCAA Championship. The Trojans, who check in at No. 2 in Golfweek's first rankings of the fall, won the 2015 ANNIKA Intercollegiate, while Arizona and Arkansas rounded out the top three.

HISTORY AT THE ANNIKA INTERCOLLEGIATE

The Gamecocks have competed at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate in each of the tournament's first three years of existence. South Carolina claimed a seven-stroke victory in the inaugural event in 2014 with a 54-hole score of 854 (-10). Former Gamecock Justine Dreher grabbed medalist honors after totaling a 207 (-2), while current senior Jia Xin Yang finished just outside the top-20 in a tie for 22nd (218, +2). South Carolina placed ninth at the tournament last year, posting a three-round total of 872 (+8). Two Gamecocks finished in the top 10, including current senior golfer Katelyn Dambaugh, who earned third-place honors after matching the program's low 54-hole record.

A great start as we posted a school record low round and lead by 4 strokes after Day 1

http://www.gamecocksonline.com/sport...092516aab.html

South Carolina women's golf kicked off its 2016-17 season in historic fashion, setting a program record with an opening-round 274 (-14) on Sunday at Watson Course to grab a four-stroke lead at the 2016 ANNIKA Intercollegiate. Katelyn Dambaugh also made history on day one, as the senior standout carded a 64 (-8), the lowest round ever by a Gamecock.

Three golfers ended the first round in the top 10 for South Carolina, which led the field with 20 birdies on Sunday. Georgia (278, -10) sits in second place, while Southern Cal and UCLA are tied for third at 9-under (279).

Dambaugh totaled seven birdies and an eagle throughout her record-setting performance. The Goose Creek, S.C., native, who began her day on No. 10, recorded her first birdie on the par-4 11th before adding another one on No. 14. She made the turn at 3-under 33 after back-to-back birdies on Nos. 16 and 17 and dropped to 5-under following an eagle on the par-4 second. Dambaugh, who currently holds a two-shot lead over Arizona State's Linnea Strom and UCLA's Lilia Vu, finished her round in style, notching birdies on Nos. 8 and 9.

Junior Ainhoa Olarra and freshman Anita Uwadia both sit in a tie for eighth after opening the tournament with a 69 (-3). Olarra turned in a steady performance, tallying 15 pars to go along with birdies on Nos. 2, 8 and 10. Uwadia enjoyed a solid debut for the Gamecocks after finishing with five birdies. She posted a front-nine 34 (-2) and registered pars on each of her final seven holes.

Senior Jia Xin Yang carded a 72 (E) to end Sunday in a tie for 28th, while sophomore Marion Veysseyre (T35) shot a 1-over 73. Yang, who recorded 14 pars, tallied a birdie on the par-5 17th and par-4 fifth. Veysseyre added three birdies of her own, including one on her second to last hole, the par-5 eighth.

Well, the good news is we set a school record for lowest 54 hole score; the bad news is that was only good enough for 6th place overall, although we were only 9 strokes behind the winner Southern Cal

http://www.gamecocksonline.com/sport...092716aab.html

South Carolina women’s golf earned sixth-place honors at the 2016 ANNIKA Intercollegiate after posting a three-round score of 849 (-15), the lowest 54-hole mark in program history. The Gamecocks fired a final-round 285 (-3) Tuesday at Watson Course to finish one stroke outside of the top five and nine shots away from Southern Cal, which won the event after totaling an 840 (-24).

Senior Katelyn Dambaugh opened the season with a top-10 showing, placing in a tie for sixth with a three-round total of 208 (-8). Her performance marked the 15th top-10 showing of her career and was one stroke shy of the school’s low 54-hole mark. She carded six birdies on Tuesday and turned in a 34 (-2) on her back nine. Dambaugh’s 16 birdies ranked second in the field this week.

Freshman Anita Uwadia also placed in the top 20, as the Okoko, Nigeria, native finished in a tie for 11th at 6-under (210) for the tournament. She boasted three birdies to go along with 12 pars during her final round, and Uwadia finished her first collegiate tournament with just five bogeys.

Marion Veysseyre fired the low round of the day for the Gamecocks, posting a 3-under 69 on the way to a tie for 27th place. The sophomore, who finished even for the tournament, turned in a steady performance on Tuesday after totaling 15 pars and three birdies.

Junior Ainhoa Olarra also placed in a tie for 27th following her final-round 73 (+1). She saw an up-and-down round for the second-straight day, recording five birdies and six bogeys. The San Sebastian, Spain, native used back-to-back birdies on Nos. 14 and 15 to play her final nine holes at even.

Senior Jia Xin Yang finished her week in 54th place after recording a three-round mark of 225 (+9). After four bogeys on the front nine, Yang finished strong, notching a birdie on No. 10 before registering eight straight pars to end her round.

Quoting Coach Kalen Anderson

“We played very steady as a group today. Overall it was a solid tournament and a great starting point. I’m very proud of the way Anita played in her first collegiate tournament. Marion had an impressive round as well, posting her career low as a Gamecock. It’s a great foundation to build on.”

A great come from behind win this weekend (with a crazy tie-breaker procedure thrown in)

Plus another win over Clemson

http://www.gamecocksonline.com/sport...103016aab.html

South Carolina women's golf ended its fall season on a winning note, capturing the 2016 Landfall Tradition Title after boasting the advantage in a scorecard playoff Sunday. The No. 19 Gamecocks posted a final-round 280 (-8) at the Pete Dye Course to pull even with No. 13 Wake Forest with a 54-hole mark of 859 (-5).

The first tiebreaker was the the fifth score of each team Sunday, and both schools matched one another with a 78 (+6). After that, the champion was determined by the fifth score of Saturday's second round. Carolina freshman Anita Uwadia's 75 (+3) on day two bested the 78 (+6) of Wake Forest's Antonia Eberhard and secured the title for the Gamecocks.

Sunday's win marked the first victory of the season for the Carolina, which saw four golfers shoot under par in the final round. It was the school's first win at a fall tournament since 2014 and the first time the Gamecocks won the Landfall Tradition in six tries. Carolina positioned itself near the top of the leaderboard following its second-round 282 (-6) Saturday.

Senior standout Katelyn Dambaugh willed the Gamecocks to victory, posting her second-straight 67 (-5) behind seven birdies. The Goose Creek, S.C., native, who tied for fifth with a three-round total of 212 (-4), earned a birdie on her first hole of the day, the par-3 second. She made the turn at 2-under 34 following birdies on Nos. 6 and 9, and she shot par or better on each of her final six holes. Dambaugh's 3.90 par-4 scoring average this week ranked second in the field.

Ainhoa Olarra marked the Carolina golfer to grab a top-10 finish. She posted a final-round 71 (-1) to end the tournament in a tie for ninth at 2-under 214. The junior registered a pair of birdies on each side of the golf course, and she tallied pars on the last three holes of her round.

Freshmen Ana Pelaez and Uwadia rounded out the remaining Carolina golfers to shoot under par Sunday, as both fired a 1-under 71. Pelaez (T11, -1) finished just outside the top 10, carding four birdies on her final round. Uwadia (T31, +7) boasted her best showing of the week in round three after notching five birdies.

Sophomore Marion Veysseyre placed in a tie for 45th with a 54-hole mark of 226 (+10). She posted a final-round 78 (+6) and ended the week with the second-lowest par-3 scoring average (2.83). Senior Jia Xin Yang, who competed as an individual this week, grabbed her best showing of the season, totaling a 220 (+4) to end in a tie for 21st.

No. 2 Furman (866, +2) grabbed third-place honors, while No. 12 Purdue (872, +8) and No. 24 Oklahoma (877, +13) rounded out the top five. Wake Forest's Jennifer Kupcho won the individual medalist honors with a three-round score of 207 (-9).

Again sorry I haven't kept up - currently ranked 11th and in the middle of the SEC Tournament in Hoover, AL. Through two rounds we're in 6th at even par, 12 behind Florida in the lead. We came in as the 4th highest ranked team, so hopefully can pick it up a little in the final round today.

http://www.gamecocksonline.com/sport...042217aab.html

Senior Katelyn Dambaugh continued to lead the Gamecocks at the 2017 SEC Championship after carding a 2-under 70 in Saturday's second round at Greystone Golf & Country Club. The Goose Creek, S.C., native's performance put her two strokes off the individual lead at 6-under 138 through two rounds. No. 11 South Carolina, which posted a 290 (+2) on day two, sits in sixth place with a 36-hole mark of 576 (E).

Eighth-ranked Florida turned in an 8-under 280 to climb atop the leaderboard with a two-round total of 564 (-12), while No. 6 Georgia (569, -7) and No. 13 Arkansas (570, -6) round out the top three spots of the leaderboard. Harang Lee of the Bulldogs holds the individual lead at 8-under 136.

An eagle on the par-4 seventh keyed Dambaugh's day and led to the senior's second-straight under-par round. The Carolina standout holed out from 88 yards after spinning the ball back towards the pin, which was positioned at the back of the green. Dambaugh made the turn at 2-under 34 before notching pars on each of her final nine holes. A key sand save on the par-3 17th preserved the 72 for the senior, who leads the Gamecocks with 27 pars this week.

Freshman Ana Pelaez continued her steady play for Carolina Saturday, posting a 1-over 73. She tallied 13 pars on her round and added birdies on No. 8 and her final hole of the afternoon, the par-5 18th. Pelaez sits just outside the top-10 in a tie for 11th with a 36-hole score of 143 (-1).

Ainhoa Olarra also carded a second-round 73 (+1) after tallying another pair of late birdies. A great approach shot on the par-4 16th led to her second birdie of the day, and she added another one minutes later on No. 17. Olarra, who will head into the final round in a tie for 40th (149, +5), registered 11-straight pars during her round after opening the day with bogeys on three of her first four holes.

Sophomore Marion Veysseyre and senior Jia Xin Yang both fired a 2-over 74 in round two. Veysseyre (T27, +2) was steady for much of her day, totaling 14 pars to go with birdies on Nos. 2 and 11, while Yang (T51, +7) notched both of her birdies on her back nine after tallying ones on the par-5 11th and par-4 14th.

Oh well, fairly late in the going we were tied for 3rd and solidly above 7th by 6 strokes but a late stumble drops us to a tie for 6th after day 1. Only 2 strokes separate 5th through 8th (and only 4 more strokes down through 12th) so it's a tight battle with two days left.
