Default ***My Friend Has A Swimming Pool - Swimming & Diving 2016-17 Season***

Just as an aside to start off the thread, it's pretty darned tough to keep coming up with song titles for these threads, and for S&D I'm already scraping the bottom of the pool in year 2. Oh well.

Anyway this song wasn't a hit but it's a happy snarky tune from a few years ago by Mausi that has a fun & appropriate title at least

Diving into the new season hosting Kentucky for both men & women

http://www.gamecocksonline.com/sport...101216aab.html

The University of South Carolina Swimming and Diving program hits the pool for the first time in 2016 as they host SEC foe Kentucky on Thursday at noon at the Carolina Natatorium in the Blatt P.E. Center.

South Carolina is in action for the first time since they ended the 2015-16 season in Atlanta for the NCAA Championships, where the men finished 17th overall and the women finished 29th.

Kentucky opens their 2016 season at Auburn Wednesday, before heading to Columbia to face Carolina. The Wildcats and Gamecocks last met Oct. 10, 2014, when the South Carolina men won 207.5-92.5, but the Kentucky women won 177-123. The Gamecock men won 14 of 16 events en route to their 115-point win over the Wildcats.

At the SEC Championship in February, Kentucky’s men finished ninth, while their women’s team finished eighth. South Carolina’s men finished seventh and the women finished eleventh.

Women going out to Fayetteville today

http://www.gamecocksonline.com/sport...110316aaa.html

The University of South Carolina women's swimming and diving program heads to Fayetteville, Ark., on Friday to face SEC foe Arkansas at 3 p.m. at the Arkansas Natatorium.

The Gamecocks are coming off of a 157-132 loss at Texas A&M. The Razorbacks are 1-0 on the season after defeating Drury 128-77 on Oct. 14 and are set to host Florida on Thursday.

"This weekend is going to be a great test for our women," said head coach McGee Moody. "Arkansas is a very talented team, but at the same token, I am very confident in the lineup that we have put together. I'm confident in our young ladies' ability to race. Hopefully we will go out there and put up a win."

Carolina's women earned four victories against the Aggies last Friday. Junior Julia Vincent claimed two of the wins after taking first in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives.
Sophomore Emma Barksdale picked up her first victory of the season as she won the 200 IM. Barksdale also contributed to the women's first place finish in the 400 free relay.

"From a racing standpoint, I thought we raced great," said Moody. "The times that we put up were faster than what we raced at Kentucky. Given the amount of training we're doing right now, we're kind of pegged as a high-volume, high-intensity, early season program. We get a lot of work done, a big workload early in the season and then once we get to the semester break, we start to focus on our championship season.

"Where we are right now, to be swimming as fast as we are, is really good. We had a lot of athletes get some NCAA B cuts and post some of the top times in the country. Overall, I was happy with where we were."

South Carolina and Arkansas last met on Jan. 18, 2013, where the Gamecocks fell 223-77.

The University of South Carolina women’s diving program swept Clemson in all three events, including platform, 1-meter and 3-meter, on Thursday at the McHugh Natatorium.

“Everyone did a good job today,” said head diving coach Todd Sherritt. “This makes 21 years undefeated against the Clemson diving team. They are definitely getting better every year.

“Julia [Vincent] continues to stay undefeated in the 3-meter and put together another solid 1-meter performance. Allyson Nied did not miss a dive platform, getting her NCAA Zone qualifying score and easily winning. She also had her best 3-meter performance and hit her NCAA Zone qualifying score. Marissa Roth did some outstanding dives off all levels. Mikaela [Lujan] did a great job in the 1-meter, taking second and earning her NCAA Zone qualifying score. Overall, I’m happy about today. We still have a ton of work, but we are in a good place.”

Junior Julia Vincent led the Gamecocks as she took first place in the 1-meter and 3-meter, remaining undefeated in 3-meter on the season. Vincent posted a mark of 311.40 on the 1-meter and 344.41 on the 3-meter.

Allyson Nied claimed her first victory of the season as she controlled the platform with an overall score of 273.83, putting her 47.63 points ahead of the second place finisher. Nied also took second place in the 3-meter with a score of 302.71.

Mikaela Lujan followed Vincent in the 1-meter, finishing second after posting a mark of 279.53. Lujan also posted a score of 267.45 in the 3-meter.

Marissa Roth recorded a score of 288.83 in the 3-meter, 268.80 in the 1-meter and 202.28 in the platform.

The University of South Carolina swimming and diving program hits the road for the first time in 2017 as they travel to Durham, N.C. to face the Blue Devils of Duke at the Taishoff Aquatic Pavilion on Saturday at noon.

South Carolina is coming off a loss to Tennessee at home last Friday. The Gamecock men fell 160-102, while the women were edged 155-143. Despite the losses, Carolina had great performances by Emma Barksdale and Fynn Minuth.

Barksdale tallied three first-place finishes on the day, including the 200-yard butterfly, 200-yard breaststroke and 200-yard IM. She also earned B cuts in the 200 IM and 200 breast. Along with her individual events, Barksdale participated in the 400-yard medley relay and contributed to the highest finish for the Gamecock women.

Minuth earned his third B cut of the season on Friday thanks to his time in the 500-yard freestyle, which also resulted in a first-place finish. He also raced in the 200-yard freestyle and missed first place by .42 seconds. In addition to his individual events, Minuth took part in the 400-yard medley relay and the 200-yard medley relay, earning second-place finishes in both.

The Blue Devils are hosting the Gamecocks for their first meet of the spring season. Duke’s men’s and women’s programs are both 4-1 after defeating Queens in their last competition in 2016.

A great year that I missed most of

The University of South Carolina Swimming & Diving team continued to reach new heights on Saturday as five Gamecocks captured All-America honors on the last day of the 2017 NCAA Division I Men's Swimming & Diving Championships. South Carolina finished 15th as a team, their best overall result in 29 years.

Akram Mahmoud smashed the school record in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 14:22.99, cutting almost 10 seconds off of his previous lifetime best. His time was good for a third-place finish. Mahmoud recorded a second-place finish last season in the mile with a time of 14:31.66. Cody Bekemeyer finished 13th in the event and Tomas Peribonio finished 16th.

Nils Wich-Glasen and Fynn Minuth also added points for the Gamecocks as they each took part in the evening swims. Wich-Glasen earned his highest finish in the 200-yard breaststroke at NCAAs and Minuth added his third All-America honor of the meet in the 200-yard butterfly.

The Gamecocks finished 17th last season at the NCAA Men's Championships, the best finish of the Moody era, and they improved by two spots this season by scoring 99 points. It's the program's 13th top-20 finish on the men's side and the best team result since coming in 11th in 1988.

Texas finished as team national champions this season, with California, Florida and NC State and Stanford rounding out the top-five.

RECAP

Mahmoud was part of an extremely competitive evening heat in the 1,650-yard freestyle. In the end, his time of 14:22.99 was just .58 seconds behind Clark Smith of Texas, the NCAA champion and new American record holder. Still, Mahmoud's time was a new school record, eclipsing the previous record by almost ten seconds.

Cody Bekemeyer was back in the water on Saturday to swim the 1650-yard freestyle, his second event of the 2017 NCAAs. He turned in his best time in the event to date as he cruised into 13th with a time of 14:44.17. The swim was his second sub-15:00 effort in the race this season and his personal best finish at the national level. Peribonio followed in 16th with a time of 14:45.37, giving the Gamecocks three swimmers finishing in the top 16 of the 1650-yard freestyle.

Nils Wich-Glasen recorded his second All-American performance of the meet as he swam a time of 1:52.87 in the 200-yard breaststroke, good for a sixth-place finish. This is also his second All-American honor in the event after finishing seventh his freshman year and disqualifying last year on a one-hand touch.
Fynn Minuth broke his second school record of the meet as a finished 13th in the 200-yard fly with a time of 1:42.05. He topped his time of 1:45.10 in the prelims and the previous school record of 1:42.48, which was set by Nick Walkotten in 2009. Minuth also set a new school record in the 500-yard freestyle earlier in the week.
