Default 2018 MBB- Brandon Martin

Martin, who is the son of South Carolina head men’s basketball coach Frank Martin, was honored on the court at halftime for eclipsing 500 career rebounds and after that, he and his teammates went to work on erasing that double-digit deficit to force overtime.

“We knew we just had to go out there and play hard and listen to what our coaches said to us,” Martin, who stands 6-foot-5 and 200 pounds,

With his high school career winding down, urgency is increasing to make a decision on his next steps. Several Division I and Division II schools, including Presbyterian, Wofford and Southeast Louisiana have reached out to Brandon, who says he’s going to make his college decision after the season.

He also has been invited into the South Carolina program as a walkon, and he says he’s sure he could play for his father.

“I go to his practice all the time and I know what he expects from his players. He doesn’t get mad at shots or turnovers, he just wants them to be in the right place and play hard. There’s a definite possibility I can go to South Carolina.”

In 25 games this season, Martin is averaging 12.2 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. He also has seven double-doubles this season while helping the Cardinals to a 16-10 record so far, which includes an 8-0 mark at home.

Nice write-up. Just what you would expect from Frank's kid - blue collar, hard-working, team-oriented. Kinda reminds me of what we have gotten out of Justin McKie for four years - not a great talent, but he plays hard and plays for the team, not himself, and makes a solid contribution.

A free ride is hard to pass up. But he is probably a good enough student to get some lottery money and Frank can swing the rest - would not be much more than he is paying for his son to go to Cardinal Newman.

^I doubt Frank would have too much trouble footing the bill.
