![]() This year is a learning season for a mostly new team. It may seem like a step backward especially following the Final Four, but it has to be this way given the number of newcomers and the absence of leaders.
The team will be good before the season is over. I'm confident of that. But it may come too late to make the post season. Regardless, I think next year we make the tourney comfortably. Last edited by gAmkok; 12-26-2017 at 11:32 AM.. |

We just need to let the season play out and see what progresses. There are a myriad of intangibles at play that could aid or deter. |

![]() Losing Dozier and Felder really hurt us in the non conference portion to start the year off with shaky pg play aND stagnant offense in most games. I'm happy with Minaya, Haase, Beaty, and Booker as new comers. Still undecided on the other newcomers. Holden has been hurt but still haven't seen that explosion he had at Delaware. The other guy I can't think of his name that transferred in as a graduate hasn't done much.

![]() OK, we've still got a game versus Limestone College coming up tomorrow - which should be a cakewalk and a stat-padder game for us - and a game versus Texas Tech - which will be a very tough one for us.
But at this point through 11 of our 13 OOC games, comparing our offense to last season's OOC stats are as follows: (2016-17 / 2017-18) FG %: 337-769 (.438) / 276-632 (.437) Opp's FG %: 241-671 (.359) / 242-583 (.415) 3-pt FG %: 92-255 (.361) / 80-243 (.329) Opp's 3-pt FG %: 59-227 (.260) / 73-219 (.333) FT %: 170-247 (.688) / 165-250 (.660) Opp's FT %: 230-327 (.703) / 159-231 (.688) PPG: 72.0 / 72.5 Opp's PPG: 59.3 / 65.1 RPG: 37.8 / 37.6 Opp's RPG: 33.4 / 31.6 Overall, our offense is pretty much the same as last year's. Remember that 6 of those OOC games was played without Thornwell's contributions. Overall shooting was similar, although we shot better from behind the arc last season. Free throws were better as well, although we've taken and completed more per game thus far this season than last. Points and rebounds per game are also pretty much equal to last season's averages. The biggest difference this season is obviously our defensive ability to contain opponents. They are shooting better this season, have already made more field goals through 11 gms this season than they made through 13 gms last season, and are taking (and making) two more 3-pt shots per game than last season. Thus they are scoring more pts per gm this season. And this isn't a huge shock: the new players are needing time to learn and develop confidence in CFM's defensive schemes. Hopefully all this practice time around the holidays will help them catch up, although they didn't seem to benefit much from it for the Clemson game.... |

![]() Our defense (compared to last year) is the glaring stat that we need to improve...
Hopefully we can get it figured out..
