Half baked commit ó Iím committing but will keep looking around and going on visits so the school will continue to have to expend resources on me instead of pushing hard on talented uncommitteds to make my new (our) team better.

It’s the equivalent to a restaurant reservation. Make no mistake, if it somehow comes down between a guy like this and a top notch player, Boom won’t think twice to telling him to look around.

Coaches still want him to come to camp this summer.

The smart thing to do would be to accept the commitment, but privately communicate to the kid beforehand and say something like "we'll not ruin any parades and go ahead and take the commitment on this... but we want to see you in camp".

I guess I have been a GC too long. Here is a thread about a 2020 commitment, from an offer from CWM , and it seems the fans here believe this is a BS take. Wow WTF is up with the collective masses with this info? Kid commits and then has the cajones to say he may still visit, guess we must believe this is moo u.

These half hearted commitments work both ways. We have accepted his commitment but if we find a better player who is really committed he might HAVE to take those visits. It seem silly to commit this early unless you are sure. It doesn't benefit either side. He must be a pretty good player if we accepted his commitment this early without him being in camp. Hope he sticks. I like what Wolford has done with our OL classes.

As usual I will just say the same thing again. Let the coaches worry about who to offer, who to accept a commitment from, etc.

Twice this year already we have had a commitment and "fans" have bashed the kid who gave it.

Gets really old, really quick.

Itís nice and all but Iíve never considered any recruit committed who also stated they were leaving their recruitment open, especially this far out. Itís just logic. You canít be both committed AND have an open recruitment.

These kids have no idea what commitment is.. They see it as claiming a spot until something better comes along.. I see it as USC is the leader

Why should they have an idea what "commitment" is when the schools have no idea either? Neither side is bound til it's on paper.

Yeah, we hold 16 year olds more accountable than we do adults who get paid millions. even after the paperwork is signed, the committment by the player is far greater than that of the coaching staff.

A commitment should be binding by each side. Itís a contract. If your looking and still open to other schools, itís not a commitment and should not be called such. Schools that accept commitments and donít abide by them (unless itís mutual) should be exposed for that and, as a result, should discourage commitments to such places. This process is currently ridiculous and a huge waste of resources. Donít commit (or accept commit) unless itís binding and the spot is no longer available. This young man must be very good and of course we are happy to have him if he really wants to be here and the ďcommitmentĒ is meaningful. Itís this last part that doesnít seem to yet be true. So, why the announcement? What does the commitment mean? What is to celebrate here? And donít act like we arenít a school that deserves meaningful and total commitments (because our history) ó this school has always been special and most of the country is just catching on now ó were on the up and nothing is stopping this train and you all know itís true ( and so should he :)

Don't understand the drama in this thread......didn't Coach Muschamp already tell the press that if a recruit keeps his recruitment open after committing, then he and his staff will simply keep their recruitment of others at his position open too?

This kid isn't getting any drop on our staff....his commitment was accepted by the staff, but at this early stage of his recruitment I'm sure it's a conditional offer with several conditions he still has to meet. It's just way too early in the 2020 cycle for our staff to feel they have their backs to a wall when it comes to any prospects. Just have patience and let this ride for a bit....

Everyone already knows a verbal commitment is basically worthless. Except over 90% of all verbal commits also sign LOI’s with the same school.

This makes the most sense. No butt hurt from the staff (looking @ you Dabo) and we can save face if situations change. Congrats to Walker and welcome to the family.
