Default Sin Dedicated to Giving Extra Effort for Remainder of Season

Sin says he is dedicated to giving extra effort each game to try and make up for close losses absorbed in his absence, because if we barely miss the NCAA Tournament due to early losses, he would feel responsible. No wonder he was such a mad dog at Georgia!

Watch out, A&M.

I wonder if the three non-conference losses will matter? Even if USC had won those games, they would probably still need at least 12 SEC wins to be seriously considered by "the committee". But then, we don't know what kind of standard "the committee" will have for USC to get an invitation. The only thing we know for sure is that it will be a higher standard than would be required for the elites of college basketball (Kentucky, Duke, UNC, UCLA, Kansas, etc.).

Jay Bilas suggested that SEC basketball was (unfairly) held to a higher standard because of its success on the gridiron; perhaps that was tongue-in-cheek.

If true, it means that the members of "the committee" lack integrity, morality and character. If that is the case, it would hardly be a surprise to me as I have watched them demonstrate what they are for a while now. Perhaps they give some of their invitations as a result of money passed under the table. Would not surprise me at all. Obviously, I have no respect for the NCAA in general, and the basketball selection committee in particular.

Just need those three teams to win as many as they can (even clemson) to lessen the blow. THe home loss hurts worse than losing on the road.

He should give extra effort as he clearly lost two games for us due to rule violations. No one to blame but Thornwell if those two losses cost us a bid. Absolutely no excuse for a senior captain to put us in this mess. This is definitely not something a so called team leader should ever do.

Yes, but let us not dwell on the negatives; the "suspended" thread is done with.
Rather, let us dwell on the positive aspect of past events. It may, in the long run, prove to have been a springboard for a greater season, as we now have two prolific scorers, with many intangible assets, in Sin AND PJ.

Nothing wrong with it, but if it was an academic issue, you don't want him to wind up in the same boat after mid-term exams going into the postseason.

He had everything with his game together when the season began. Not worried about him on the basketball side of things.

Sin certainly has addition motivation to play well the rest of the season. And nothing has changed regarding his team leadership.

After being invisible much of the game, he came on strong on the inside against A&M to help seal the deal.

FWIW after the game the analysts on CBS said that the fact we're undefeated with Thornwell and our only losses came without him will be looked at favorably by the selection committee.

Yeah, team leaders never get in trouble or make mistakes because to be a team leader you can't be human? He showed you he is a leader by how he responded and will continue to respond, he showed you he is a leader by being the biggest cheerleader on the bench, pushing the players in practice and taking his punishment like a man, never pouting or blaming someone else! If those 3 games cost us a bid it is not on Sin as they had 27 other games not including the conference tourney to prove we are worthy!
In my opinion this team will break the NCAA tourney win drought on the shoulders of Thornwell and Dozier making them Gods in Columbia for life!

Yep, only game USC might of had a close win/loss with him in, is probably Memphis. Taters and hall get drug through the briar patch. If this team is clicking on all cylinders, I only see UK beatng them.

I certainly hope that is true, but we've got a pretty good Ole Miss team to pass by on the 14th (they've lost in conference to KY and FL), a VERY good Florida team we've got to get by on the 18th, and of course, there's a Georgia rematch in there on the 4th of February too.

I think that Florida will be a legitimate challenge, Ole Miss may be better than suspected (I'll be better equipped to say after they play their next two) for a close one that we SHOULD win, and Georgia... they'll be ITCHING for that rematch after the loss they took to us in the first matchup.

We beat a good Texas A&M team today, but most teams we play aren't going to turn the ball over as much as they did. We've got to hope that we don't have another 1st half like today again the rest of the season, or we might dig a hole too large to get out of unless it's VS. a Auburn or 'Bama or Missouri.

I'm going to try to do a post on the rest of the SEC season as soon as I can. There are some interesting matchups in the SEC for the Gamecocks, and I personally think that it's going to be a challenging series of games for the 'Cocks between the 11th and 21st. We get a few weeks to breathe at the end of January and early February, but then the challenges pick up again.

All of that to say... don't count your Gamecocks before they hatch! (See what I did there??) :-)

We're certainly a much better team than anyone thought we would be heading into the 2016-17 season, but we're probably not ready to run the table yet.

Don't forget TN, our next opponent! Before anyone says, "They're only 1-2 in the conference", just like A&M, a capable team, albeit with a youthful backcourt, they have their backs against the wall. We always seem to get teams after close losses to good teams, therefore, they have extra incentive and energy.

TN lost a close game to Oregon, in overtime, earlier in a tourney in Hawaii, they lost by 2 in Chapel Hill, played Gonzaga close, lost by 4 at Arkansas and then let FL off the hook in Gainesville today. They are due for a quality win, and we are the next in line a their place. The timing could not be worse to play them.

We're still a young team, especially the bigs.

We will do better than last year in the SEC, but I am taking everything with a grain of salt this season.
