![]() I doubt it, even though he should be honestly. It was his defense that gave up so many yards and points to opposing teams. Sound familiar?

![]() He probably isn't right now, as the program needs something resembling a coaching staff to finish out their season: can't fire them all right now.
But his poor defense there has as much to do with DeRuyter now being out of a job as anything else going wrong there, so when the next HC comes in, I seriously doubt they will look to keep him on the next staff beyond this season. It's a one-season deal..... |

![]() the sad thing is their defense is actually improved over last year, barely, but it shows how awful of a football team they were last year and still are. 2 nfl scouts told a reporter for the fresno bee that the bulldogs were the least talented team in their conference.
yards per play 2015 offense 118th defense 96th 2016 offense 121st defense 87th it wasnt a good situation to jump into, he was hired to run the same system they ran the year before (3-4) with all of the old staff except the secondary coach staying on, but your options are limited when the last defense you ran finished 104th in yards per play. if he somehow is retained or gets another shot somewhere id be shocked if he didnt go back to the 4-2-5. the odd thing about tim deruyter, is he was considered a defensive guru before he got to fresno st. his last 3 years as a dc before taking the fresno state job, his teams finished in the top 20 in yards per play allowed. |

![]() Incredibly, after a short tutelage under Saban, Kiffen has somewhat repaired his reputation. Fairly soon Kiffen will get another shot at a major school. Kiffen and Petrino are cut from the same bolt of cloth, very good coaches who leave dumpster fires every where they go. Some AD will take a chance on Kiffen just like Louisville did with Petrino.

The problem Fresno has, and the problem we had, is it doesn't matter how good a coach you are, you're only as good as the talent you have on hand. I don't know anything about Fresno's recruiting strategy/efforts, but our problems the last few years have been solely due to recruiting issues. It's not a new problem, if you go back and look at our past classes our problems started around 2009 and accelerated from there. Too many misses on guys that never enrolled, too many misses on guys that were overrated, and a lack of a cohesive recruiting strategy. Our staff was recruiting with their hands tied behind their backs. Other programs during that time span beefed up recruiting offices, beefed up QC staffs, and generally modernized their efforts. Bama had 15 guys doing QC and analysis...we had 4 or 5, and Sr really didn't want them. Clemson hired a Bama guy to model their program after Bama's, and completely revamped their program...we set out bowls of leftover Halloween candy for recruits. Our RC hated talking on the phone, Sr refused to talk with recruits on the phone. That's how you kill a program. Whatever happened at Fresno, they wound up with a huge talent drain which has put them in a hole. |

![]() glad for him, if he ever gets another dc job it will be interesting to see what system he runs. fresno state finished 65th in yards per play allowed.
