Its apparent he has some off field issue going on. Not going to speculate on what it is but I doubt its to big a deal or it would certainly be cut and dry he isn't coming. I am starting to worry that as good as he is maybe he isn't worth it. To jeopardize what he has riding on a strong academic finish and to throw up any red flags is just dumb. I will let the process work its way out but at this point it appears BT is a bonehead.

High schools don't factor in SAT. NCAA looks at a combination of SAT and GPA.

The lower the SAT, the higher the GPA needed to play NCAA sports. Assuming BT didn't have a high SAT, his grades would have to be much higher than the grades needed for high school eligibility.

I just dont get how these kids can screw up so much. They have an opportunity to go to school for free, live out their dreams of being a D1 athlete, and become a multi millionaire after 3 years. I think Boom would keep the kid in line but still help yourself and dont do dumb things.

is the sat score relative to gpa a constant throughout set by the ncaa, or do schools get to set their own bar, i.e. does tennessee have a lower standard than usc?

I believe there's an NCAA standard but then schools have their own admission requirements as well.

Correct.
NCAA sets baseline, individual schools can go above (ie Stanford), but all schools must follow at least the baseline.

He says he's enrolling at Bennett and hoping to transfer to a D2 school in a year or two per PK's site. Knott says he didn't handle his business in that article (reads as though he was supposed to take two extra virtual classes and did not get that accomplished).

Coach Knotts owes Muschamp an apology if you ask me. He was all huffy about it around signing day and said stuff in print.

A job very well done by coach Muschamp for handling things as well as possible, hanging in with a local kid and giving him every opportunity to get it done, but also not blowing a slot and having a back up plan in place. Smart navigation of a new rule and a tricky situation.

Have a feeling this whole "saga" will not end until final grades are in.

Have to imagine Thompson is sick of this....not many if any high school seniors have this many people paying this much attention to his grades. I personally don't like it (he is a kid for god's sake).

yes, everyone can say it is by his own doing, but we don't know what a majority of these major college prospects go home to, what goes on when they aren't at school or at practice.

I'm not insinuating Thompson has an awful home life...personally have no idea....but be honest, is this many people were concerned about his grades at the start, he would not be in this situation....people only care right now because he is a major college prospect. If he was a D2 kid or just a high school athlete, no one would bat an eye.

I hope this works out for Bryce...no matter where he goes (Marshall, SC, where ever). At this point, going to Marshall may be good for him...get him away from Columbia and the toxic portion of this fanbase and put him somewhere where he can just do his thing without this much scrutiny.

Head up BT.

Level-headedness...who would've thought Muschamp.
I do applaud our coaches sticking with BT. Many staffs would have just moved on. Tells me one 1-BT is a gamechanger talent the staff recognizes they need 2 - our staff do care about these guys they bring in. To me, that means more than any win.

Said it before, wish BT all the best no matter how this shakes out.

He is actually going to have a 2nd chance. He could go to Benedict get his grades in order and transfer to basically any school he wants to. Situation where the kid dropped the ball. Its on him now. The SC Staff was more than supportive for BT so nothing else they could do. As the old saying goes you can only lead the Camel to water.

ATH Bryce Thompson of Dutch Fork had hoped to play his college football football in the big time of the SEC. He committed to USC in December and also looked at Tennessee. Marshall also was a factor for awhile. Thompson held off on signing with anyone thru the two signing periods because he still had some academic work to accomplish.
As things have turned out, Thompson will not be signed by USC for the 2018 class. He said Friday his plan now is to enroll at a local Columbia school and go from there.

I plan on going to Benedict for a year or two then trying to find a good D2 college for me, Thompson said.

Going to a HS like Dutch Fork and not getting your class work done is kind of silly. A school like Dutch Fork has all the resourses possible to get you a passing grade. If it is his grades then it is all on him, if his problems are other than class work, then its all on him.
Our coaches did all they could to get him on ink but when a kid doesnt want to hold his end of the bargain up there is nothing you can do. Glad to see our coaches stick by a kid till the end. I hope the best for Bryce and I hope he can move his life forward and a good manner.
