Yes. That's about 1hr @ $75/hr + parts and a bit of buffer. They gotta pay that overhead.

Not complaining, just making sure I'm not getting totally hosed. Thanks. They told me that was the issue it would be $100, if it doesn't fix it, then it is just a $35 charge for the labor etc. and at that point it was the motherboard, and he wasn't sure that would be worth replacing.

I just looked up the part, and the XPS has the cable/ribbon and charge port as 1 part.
So it is a little more expensive that I thought. Here it is.

Hmm, I probably could have replaced it myself, but I guess it's worth paying someone who has actually done it before. I guess because its all one part, replacing it covers both a faulty cable/ribbon or bad port.

He did notice a bit of play where the power cable goes in, either way I'm hopeful this will fix it.

Thanks to all who posted, the fix was actually even simpler and cheaper. I took my laptop to Mr PC and after a day or so, the technician was able to charge the laptop with an old Dell charger. He ordered a second one and I picked it up today. To his credit, he only charged me for the charger and no diagnostics or anything like that. He was not sure why a brand new charger wouldn't charge it, but this older one would. Either way, it appears to be working just fine, and I am back in business.
