Default LG TVs HDMI Input Issue

For some reason, the HDMI inputs on my 7 1/2 year old LG TV have stopped working. A web search has revealed that this is occuring with other LG TVs. I doubt this can be repaired, but have any of you with LG tvs experienced the same issue?

Is it all the ports and have u tried using a different HDMI cable as well?

If it is in fact the port, and the TV is almost 8 years old, I doubt it is worth repairing.

Thanks. After further searches online, I found this may be due to the failure of the set's HDMI card. From what I've found so far, this is reparable at an average cost of $200.00. Fortunately, there are LG Authorized Repair shops within 25 miles, so I'll be calling them.

Well, if they are close enough to drive to go ahead and have it fixed. Personally, I would use it as an excuse to upgrade. "sorry honey, they said it's shot, I'll just have to go find a new one!"

Info here may help. One answer was to unplug and wait a few minutes then re-plug.
Also, replacing a board is not that difficult.

I would be straight with the wife. $200 to fix a 7+yr old tv is probably a bad investment. I think for $400 you can probably get a better TV than anything that was available that long ago. Not sure how big of a TV you need but a TLC or a Vizio is a great value for the quality and should easily nuke anything from that era and give you an HDR opportunity for the future.

$200 is more than half the price of a 4K entry model like mine. Put me in the camp that says do the upgrade and sell the LG for $50 or so.

Upgrade and move on. A 7 year old TV is an old TV.

Donate your current one to Goodwill. Win-win.

Personally I would be leary of spending of $200 when I didn't know the repair man. The attached video shows how you can heat the hdmi chip and get about a month of life out of it before it goes out again. You can buy a new board for under $100. It's just plug n play installation basically. I had a 55inch Sony plasma that I got for free from someone trashing it. $100 for the board and it lasted me for 7 more years before I upgraded.

$300 (apparently there is another additional 10% off through ebates?) for the tcl 49s405 which is a really solid deal right now.

All you have to do is replace the mainboard, you can do that yourself. Or see if component cables still work.
