The Federal Communications Commission on Thursday overturned "net neutrality," the regulations ensuring that internet service providers such as AT&T (T), Comcast (CMCSA) and Verizon (VZ) treat all website and content equally.

It's so sad how corrupt our government can be. To so blatantly ignore the pleas from so many Americans just to cater to big cooperation...

The sad thing is that people don't care... they don't care that our politicians.. democrat or republican can be wine and dined aka Lobbied to vote to whoever is the highest bidder. Even if it means selling out Americans to companies like Verizon or Comcast.

Unfortunately the bright side is that when people's internet bills start to rise, and they are forced to pay for different websites or face throttled speeds people will be forced to wake up.

Unfortunately I don't think most will know any different, they will just pay the higher rate rather than expend any energy to get out and vote and try to make a difference. We have become a nation of lazy asses.

This was a forgone conclusion when Ajit Pai was appointed FCC chair.

I think the isps will now have packages like cable does. if you want netflix, hulu, amazon etc in full 4k you will just pay $10 more a month or something.

basically the packages will be somewhat based on what is out there. if you want faster speed you pay more a month. that happens now.

I believe people are overreacting somewhat.

This will benefit more people than you think. For instance, someone who uses internet solely for Netflix or just email shouldn’t have to be stuck with a 50$ package. They should have an option of something cheaper that suits their needs. Also, this is a step of LESS government regulation!! You and I, the people, will decide the market once again. Pre 2015 we didn’t have net neutrality, do you remember all the chaos then? No, no you don’t bc the internet was fine then without gov’t regulation as well.

Keep believing people will actually pay less. Why do you think the big ISPs are the ones pushing for this so hard? Itís not that they can charge you less.

They could charge you less now. Nothing about net neutrality regulates prices or plan options.

I can agree to a point. I donít think there are enough providers in certain areas to let the market set the rate. For example I have charter and AT&T and those are my only two options so no really a true free-market system

Most people I know have one or two internet options.. that's it.. zero competition. Zero choice. Also net neutrality was set up to prevent this kinda thing from happening, just b/c they didn't do it then doesn't mean they can't do it now...
Government regulation isn't always bad... it's why we don't have monopolies.. its why we have labor laws, it's why we our food is safe to eat..

Wrong on so many levels. They won't offer lower prices for people who only use netflix and email. They will just charge people who use netflix a premium.

Name an instance in history where a big corp dropped prices when they were afforded an opportunity to make more money by using there size and power and influence to control the prices.

Add to that the major tv and cable markets already have backroom agreements to get around anti-trust laws by not offering overlapping coverage, and it just makes it more unfair to smaller companies who would try to compete.

Do you really think telecommunications is a free market? Tell me how many choices you have for data and tv?

We have only have 2 choices. Spectrum (formally TWC) and ATT. ATT owns Direct TV and Uverse and Dish doesn't offer a data option so you have to pick one of the others. Is this the free market you speak of?

Free market is great when consumers have choices. One or maybe two high speed providers in any given market is not choice and is anything far from free market.

It will end up being like your cable TV options. Shitty.
