I honestly cannot believe there are some so entrenched in tribalism that they would try to defend this. Here's a simple axiom that should help those out in the future: When conglomerates are the only ones pushing legislation, it is only good for them and not for the people. It goes across all industries, from dairy farmers to pharmaceuticals, and should make it easy to see the bs.

I'd argue that American's were very active in voicing their concern about Net Neutrality, Millions of petitions were signed to stop this vote and the FCC gave them the Bird while accepting their thousands of dollars in lobbying money.

I'm just hoping that this will be the straw that breaks the camels back, that we say enough is enough and call lobbying what it is, a bribe. Until lobbying ends politicians will continue to be courted by Billionaires and big cooperation.

Your right. It constrains internet service providers ability to push bandwidth for its customers to high data websites like Netflix and away from low data website like geocities. My point is that the regulations are overreaching. The authority was only granted by congress to regulate telephone lines, not the internet cables. If this type of executive power is going to be expanded, it should pass through congress.

No it doesn’t constrain them. Internet service is currently sold by speed ( bandwidth) so if you want more speed to watch streaming or gaming or whatever, you pay a higher rate. Net neutrality does not regulate this.

Please educate yourself before posting nonsense.

Pre 2015 we didn’t have net neutrality, do you remember all the chaos then? No, no you don’t bc the internet was fine then without gov’t regulation as well.
Let the free market decide?

There is no free market in ISP. There are a few mega companies stamping out all other options. I only have access to Spectrum where I live. You need to quit reading theory and research things on your own.

Nearly half of US households only have one high speed ISP to choose from.

Let the free market decide! Because.... Investment!

That kind of thing should be passed through Congress, not the executive branch. If you care about all of your internet coming through at the same speeds, then contact your congressman. Don't get pissed at an executive branch sticking to the rules.
FCC is not the executive branch.

Sorry bud. I did do my research. (:

Quote:
However, when the internet started to allow private internet service providers (ISPs) to connect to the government system in the 1990s, the structure of the internet became more complex. Private backbones supplemented the original government network, connecting through four backbone network access points. The four access points almost immediately became congested with traffic, which gave the backbone operators market power over regional ISP providers. To reduce congestion and limit backbone market power, ISPs quickly developed new pathways and connections.

Thus since the early days of the private internet there have been multiple paths for packets of information to travel. Similar packets have traveled over different pathways at different speeds and have long paid differing amounts to do so. These arrangements were not anti-consumer or anti-competitive. They were simply what was required to create redundancy and overcome market power.

In fact, they allowed content providers—websites, media streamers, and others—to reduce costs and increase quality of service because not all uses of the internet are alike in their technical demands on the network. For instance, email packets don’t have to arrive “simultaneously” for email to “work” but Skype packets do.

The management of those multiple paths and internet uses has been governed by contract, not government regulation. In fact, during the development of the internet from its early days to the present, regulation, including net neutrality regulation, has actually had very little effect.
https://www.cato.org/publications/co...net-neutrality

Regarding my actual point, I'll give you a quote from the original Comcast Corp.v.FCC,600 F.3d 642(D.C. Cir. 2010),

Quote:
It is true that “Congress gave the [Commission] broad and adaptable jurisdiction so that it can keep pace with rapidly evolving communications technologies.” Resp’t’s Br. 19. It is also true that “[t]he Internet is such a technology,” id., indeed, “arguably the most important innovation in communications in a generation,” id. at 30. Yet notwithstanding the “difficult regulatory problem of rapid technological change” posed by the communications industry, “the allowance of wide latitude in the exercise of delegated powers is not the equivalent of untrammeled freedom to regulate activities over which the statute fails to confer . . . Commission authority.” NARUC II, 533 F.2d at 618 (internal quotation marks and footnote omitted). Because the Commission has failed to tie its assertion of ancillary authority over Comcast’s Internet service to any “statutorily mandated responsibility,” Am. Library, 406 F.3d at 692, we grant the petition for review and vacate the Order.
https://www.eff.org/files/comcast_v_fcc_dc_cir_2010.pdf

NOTE: Although the same court issued the above ruling and the 2016 ruling, 2 of the 3 judges were replaced.

Now, I'm going to go on with my life by surfing the dark depths of the currently unregulated internet . . . orrrrr maybe just do some work. Have a good one!

Dang it. Dragged back in. You are correct that is not technically in the executive branch. It is an independent agency. Notwithstanding, the FCC's policy is led by the executive branch as the head of the FCC is appointed by the President. (i.e. Obama administration pushed Net Neutrality, while Trump administration has pushed deregulation).

But my actual point, as always, is that the only reason the FCC has any power is that it was specifically granted certain authority by Congress to regulate. If Congress did not grant that authority, then the FCC can not and should not attempt to regulate.

Its been fun guys, but seriously I need do some work.

The pic below is not quite accurate as it only pertains to MEO''s mobile plan. As a member of the EU they have a net neutrality rights guarantee that supersedes local or national ordinances. However it does give you a firm glimpse into just what the ISPs have been tinkering with.

All started in 2015 with Mr. Obama’s 3,000+ page document hiding in a Military Annual Budget. If the government didn’t like what you posted, they could take you down and pull your license. Don’t listen to this hog wash bullshit

And people said slower internet? Hahahaha

For various companies, once your data limit is reached you will receive slower speeds. “Pay for a bigger plan and it won’t happen.” You never had any net neutrality until 2015.....
