Right, I see nothing of value here except a way for providers to extort money from businesses dependent on the internet, who in turn will pass that costs on to us.

And if anyone is actually naÔve enough to believe this is going to lower costs to the consumers from providers, you need to come out of your little bubble.

Basically, if this stands, I see myself paying more for internet and more for Netflix/Hulu/Amazon etc.

You currently can by selecting a lower data tier because you wonít use as much bandwidth.

Has nothing to do with Net Neutrality

It will be the exact opposite. Google will have the money and resources to deal with whatever the ISPs throw at them. Innovative start-ups wonít and will get left behind.

well your southern pride speaks for itself. Personally, those two are my favorite states and then North Carolina is at 3rd.

Also, I'm pretty sure you as a consumer who doesn't have a large stake in Comcast or Verizon should vehemently want Net Neutrality.

Sure, the government has less control over the internet without it, but it's not like the government had much control over what goes on in it anyway. Even without net neutrality, they will survey, hack accounts, all the stuff they did before. The only difference it does to you as a consumer is now you have to pay $4 individual packages for most websites you visit because the government can't protect consumer's rights to access the internet and spread information for free. Instead, your "trade off" for less government involvement is that now corporations can charge you hundreds of dollars every month for each website you visit. And the government is still widely patrolling and regulating the internet at that, so there's no new "freedoms" or "protections" consumers are guaranteed. You're just paying more money for what you had before.

Your either not paying attention to the actual issue and you're blindly following a political agenda that states government involvement is bad, or you have a major financial stake in a major internet service provider like AT&T, Comcast, or Verizon.

No, it would be $4.99 to have access to have access to get Netflix. You still have to pay Netflix for your individual subscription as well.

It would be you have to pay $4.99 to your service provider, and then after that you still have to pay $9.99 to Netflix for the subscription.

Even if netflix was now $5 cheaper, you would still be paying more because you now have to pay $5 for access to social media apps (which are otherwise free). $5 for access to email (which is otherwise free).

Also, we have to pay for gmail now? People need that shit, it's not entertainment.

I need it for school. People need it for their jobs. It's not even a product given to you by your service provider. It's Google's product they made for free, but now Ashit piehole and his Verizon buds are going to piggyback off of a product that people need that isn't ever their product. Because people HAVE to buy it. People need email.

What? The internet as it is stifles innovation?

There has never been an easier and more intuitive outlet to stimulate creativity and spread ideas throughout all of time and space. It's not even close.

You can contact people on the opposite side of the globe in seconds and have a conversation or collaborate with them, you have sites like YouTube, Soundcloud, or DeviantArt which exist completely free for anyone to publish and share their ideas, inventions, products and art. For free.

So now we have to pay for that shit solely because it benefits large corporations. What's the excuse this time - trickle down?

Explain to me how being offered free access to creative networks stifles innovation and how paying for the same access now clears that up.

I have been an IT guy for 20+ years and I must admit the net neutrality thing confuses me to the point where I just don't care.

Except for here and a few other forums and VPN stuff, I could live without the damned Internet.

The online news sites used to be better than live TV, but now it's like National Enquirer nonsense.

There is always some management idiot that surfs the web instead of doing their job that takes my time, of which I have very little.

The worst thing about cell phones is they actually work like they should and people can call/text you from work at all times of the day.

There have been plenty of times where I wished I worked an Al Bundy-job and read the newspaper.
