Clowney is unreal. Remember guys, this is still amateur level fb and clowney is a freak. He will wreak havoc. I am not worried at all about the ot position.

Wilds is doing well. Damiere is better than I thought. The Guy is a baller. Number 99 is a beast along the dl.

From what you've said, I agree with pretty much all you're assessments Spurt(mainly about Owens and blocking and Byrd reminding you of McKinley). Sounds like Barnes just needs to get his rhythm back I guess. Also, I'd hate to be Will Sport and glad to hear they moved clowney over for a few snaps against Nunn.

From everything I've heard, it sounds like the "theme" of this team is speed, strength and explosiveness. The prospect of it is enough to get the adrenaline pumping for sure. I cannot wait to see and hear more about where we are at as a team.

Right now I can see us using Drew in a “Jared Cook” kind of line up almost as another wide out in passing downs, but to be a full time TE he will need to work on his blocking skills. Again, not that bad, but not at the same level right now that Justice Cunningham is on.
I know this board was asked which player might be hardest to replace this year and most answered correctly FB Patrick DiMarco. There is no doubt we brought in some talented freshmen TEs, but many are in the 210-220 range right now. Realistically Justice Cunningham at 6'3" 265LBs can't be easily replaced for his bulk and TE blocking skills by any other player on this team. While Cunningham possibly could be our FB I am hoping we find somebody else to fill that role instead. Few teams ever had a FB this big playing a lot at FB except in certain short yardage or goal line blocking roles as an H/back. If there is one observation I might want to know it might be how our other FB alternatives to Cunningham are progressing. In an ideal world Cunniingham would be our Weslye Saunders and maybe Drew Owens could be Jared Cook and we would find a Dimarco to play FB. Do you see any possibilities? This may not be answerable yet you may need more information from more practice observations? I am hoping for another answer at FB rather than Cunningham. I want him as a full time TE instead in an ideal world, I will wait for an answer till you get a feel for how this is progressing.

Right now none of the Fullbacks have actually made a big impact at
either practice. Not sure how to take that myself. It could be that the
offense is about to change drastically and we won't be using a FB in the
same way we did the past two our thee years, or it means that they are
going to be a big part of the offense and Spurrier doesn't want to show it
AT ALL right now.
It's almost like they are going out of their way NOT to use fullbacks during
team drills (Skels and 11 on 11). The FBs still run drills with the RB, but
just not used when they practice plays.

He's caught a couple of passes and they are looking at him as a possible
Punt / Kickoff returner along with about 4 other players, but he (and for
the most part Bruce Ellington) have been overshadowed by the play of
Ace Sanders and Damiere Byrd. It's still early going in practice and I'm
sure some of the less used guys will eventually show up, but looks like
all the QBs right now are going to the receivers that are "hot". When you
are being scrutinized by your coach, and he's looking over your shoulder
when your reps come up, then you want to throw to guys you are confident
will make you look good. . . Right now those guys are A Jeff, Sanders
and Byrd.

Thanks for the update Spurt. Great stuff as always.

Big JC will certainly make our Defensive Line better, but he will also make our Offensive Line better as well. If our OL can find ways to get better against him in practice, that will pay huge dividends this season.

He doesn't look like any 18 yr old kid I've ever seen, what a beast.

Good report....Damiere should be a slot guy where he can be used for reverses and maybe other plays.

FYI, Drew Owens is listed as 6'5" 241lbs....Jared Cook is currenly listed at 6'5" 248lbs for the Titans. Look forward to seeing Drew in action.

He doesn't look like any 18 yr old kid I've ever seen, what a beast.
When you have NFL Scouts say they'd take him out of high school and
make a probowl player out of him by his third year, that says something
about the ability of a player. . . . When the most quoted Recruiting
Network ranks you as the best player out of high school in the past
10 years and puts you (as a true freshman player) on a list ahead of
tested College players now wearing pro football uniforms . . (guys like
Adrian Peterson, Vince Young etc...) That speaks highly of what they
consider a "TALENTED" high school athlete.

I was listening to 107.5 coming home yesterday and Heath Kline was
talking about the reports on Clowney making the rounds on TV and Radio.
Heath said that he likes that everyone "THINKS" that Clowney is going to
be this super player, and said he does think Clowney will be a good one,
but said that you can't tell that right now by how he looks in practice
running against second unit linemen. . . . .I was trying to get on to tell
Heath my point of view on this but it was near the end of the show and
I was getting ready to head back to the Proving ground and didn't have
time to hang on the line.

My point was that I know well that a lot of times you hear the hype on
a player out of High School and the largest percentage of the time, the
play in college doesn't add up to the hype of that kid while he was being
recruited. And I fully agree with that point, HOWEVER . . having been at
almost ever open practice and most of the scrimmages at Carolina for
the past 6+ years, you see what guys look like who were highly rated out
of high school (along with those who weren't necessarily highly rated) and
you have a pretty good measuring tool to judge players by when they
are in their first weeks of practice here. . . . I've seen Highly rated guys
like Chris Culliver, Stephon Gilmore, Marcus Lattimore, Marc Barnes,
Eric Norwood etc..... and I can say with 100% confidence that using those
player's first few weeks of practice as measuring devices, Jadeveon
Clowney is FAR ahead of any of those guys above (Lattimore and
Gilmore included), after just two practices ! . . He is (Right now) as good
as Eric Norwood was as a Senior player on the practice field. He can
do things right now that Eric Norwood coudn't do. ...Yes he is rough
with some of the finer points of college level DE, and we want to get him
in as a regular full time starter by next season after we lose Taylor and
Ingram, and he has a good coach in Lawing that will get him there, but
just on raw talent, he is better right now after two practices, than alot
of our highly hyped players were after two years of practices. . . . I don't
know how it will equate into game speed play right yet, but it's hard for
me to see this kind of comparison on the practice field, not producing
anything less than "above average" results in the games this season.
In my opinion, we are looking at the start of what will become the best
defensive player (possibly even THE BEST PLAYER) Ever That South Carolina
Gamecocks have put on the field. Barring a career ending injury or
(god forbid) some personal reason he should be dismissed from the team,
This young man is going to be the biggest impact player in USC history.
(my $.02 worth)
