I am guessing they are just testing the waters like most players do. They have like a week to undeclare.

A little surprised.
If anyone was going to declare early I thought it would be Wilson.

Best of luck ladies, and thank you for the championship.

I think it's an age thing with A'ja Wilson.

I believe the rule is you have to turn 22 any time during the same calendar year as the draft.

So if A'ja had redshirted or transferred, she would be eligible.

The average WNBA salary is only about $72,000. I guess it depends on your definition of "getting paid". The whole league salary is between 10-11 Million/year spread among ~150 players.

Wow that's pretty crappy. Finish school and get the degree then go play hoops. Gives something to fall back on.

Well we guarantee scholarships now. So they can come back and finish their degree later. I am surpised by Gray. I thought she had great chemsitry here and would want to do defend the title.

A'ja Wilson doesn't strike me as the type who would leave early anyways. I feel like she stays and graduates. She will be the number 1 overall draft pick when she leaves, no matter when she decides.

You have to be 22 or a senior to declare for WNBA. I would leave for 72k in a heartbeat. I mean to do what you love for 72k. That's a no brainer.

This hurts. I can see Davis leaving, but not Gray. This really changes the outlook for next year.

I want to thank her for coming to USC and helping our program realize its dream. We couldn't have done it without her. So, good luck moving forward with your career, I will always be a personal fan of yours.

I suppose I get it. $72 grand for a kid in college probably seems like a ton of money. It's hardly worth giving up a free college degree though. And, depending on where they play, that $72,000 may not go very far. The highest paid player in the WNBA is an average Joe salary-wise in NYC or LA.

Since they would both be 5th year seniors, I think it is pretty safe to assume they will graduate this spring with a degree.

What's really sad is that you don't read about UConn players leaving early for the draft. As near as I can tell, they remain committed to the team until their eligibility is gone. Not sure what that vibe is, but I sure wish we could create it in Columbia.

Not just for women's basketball...but also in football. Just sad.

There are usually two camps of fans: those who say players should go pro early if they can and get theirs VS those who realize it's better for the program for the better players to stay longer.

I'm a Gamecock fan, first and foremost. So I advocate for anything that makes us a better program in any sport. Better players leaving early weakens the program. It may not be as bad for women's basketball since we're a top tier program now, but it definitely has hurt bad in football and will hurt if PJ leaves for basketball.

The best women go and play in foreign leagues as well as the WNBA. I heard once about Diana Taurasi taking a season off from her team bc her Russian team payed her to take the time off. The 72k can be supplemented by a LOT paid by Russian oligarchs and others like them.

I'd take $72K.
Granted it is not near what the men get paid...but still, that ain't walking around money.
