He scored 17.8/game, but his shooting percentage wasn't anything to write home about.

He was definitely a volume scorer for wright state and seems to have a lot of confidence in his 3. Frank actually offered him out of high school. I think he could be a nice rotational guard and he has good length at 6'5.

Much needed size at guard. He could play the 3 for us at times which is a huge need for this year, sign him up immediately.

Alstork, a 6’5” guard originally from Dayton, Ohio, was an all-Horizon League pick this past season for the Raiders. His 19.0 points per game in 32 contests (30 starts) led the team and placed him third in the conference overall. Alstork was originally a Ball State signee that transferred to Wright State before the 2014-15 season to play closer to home; he would eligible to play immediately and would provide a big boost to the Gamecocks’ roster.

Wright State grad transfer Mark Alstork, a Michigan target, tells me Louisville. Georgetown. South Carolina & Illinois are now involved.

He shot better the previous year, so he may have been trying to do too much last year. He also is a guy that gets to the line a lot, so he is putting up tough shots to draw fouls, ala Sin.

His three percentage is above 33 1/3% (barely, but still) which equates to the same number of points as shooting 50% on two pointers - basically a point averaged per shot taken.

Looking at his overall stats - assists, rebounds, number of foul shots - he looks like the second coming of Sin. Si(g)n him up!

He has declared for the NBA draft but has not hired an agent. It's probably unlikely that he will be drafted. Here is a recent interview with him.

Those numbers do not seem to be entirely accurate. Look like midseason numbers.

Finished scoring 19 pts a game on .400/.387/.856. 4 rebs, 3.5 acts.

.....

Looks like a big fight for the kid.

We obviously can use any wing with size who can score a bit. He'd perhaps take fewer and better shots here which might raise his percentages. 39% from three will do though.

The 3 is the one position I'm not sure of our starter. I think Rah will start at 1, Kory at 2, Chris at 4 and Maik at 5.

So far, so good.

The 6-foot-5 Dayton, Ohio, native is considering the Gamecocks for his final season and said Frank Martin has made him his personal recruiting target.

“I like what he’s saying. I wouldn’t be continuing to talk to him if I didn’t think there was potential,” Alstork said. “I feel good about the situation there and we’re just going to continue to go on from there. Frank Martin said he’s personally going to recruit me himself.”

Alstork said the only visit he has set right now is to Pitt on May 5. He plans to set dates with USC and Georgetown. He’s also looking at Louisville, NC State, Iowa State and a few others.

Alstork plans to make his decision between the Middle and end of May. He still has summer school work to complete at Wright State before he graduates. He played one season at Ball State before transferring to Wright State.

“They need somebody with my caliber, my experience to come in and be a veteran and lead these guys, and be a starter in a winning culture and a winning program,” he said of the Gamecocks. “And be able to be who I am, too. They say they have the opportunity which I can fulfill if I bring what they know I’m capable of.”

Alstork also has his name in the NBA Draft right now but at this point he “most likely” will withdraw from the draft before the May 24 deadline. He said he started out as a second round prospect but his information now is he is in the undrafted category.

As of now, there are 13 scholarship players for next season, plus some walk-ons. I think Frank's recruiting Alstork, or another graduate transfer wing, shows that he does not want to have to depend on Blanton and Hinson to play next season. Hinson might choose not to play basketball, and the fact that Blanton didn't play much the last half of the season probably indicates he isn't physically able to play. I think if Blanton was healthy, he would have played a lot more last season. If Frank was certain he could count on both Blanton and Hinson, I doubt he would be trying to recruit anyone for next year.

Well you have to remember short of missing a bowl game Hinson won't join the basketball team until conference play. He is going to be dedicated to football for as long as football season goes on, then he gets to go to basketball. As for Blanton, if he was healthy he might have been the most athletic player on the team last season and would have made a big time impact. It's sad how that injury derailed his career but at this point Frank can't rely on him. Since it looks like 1 grad transfer is the number I expect Blanton to go through the Senior Night next season as a RS JR because if he is on pace with his schoolwork he should receive his degree next Spring.

I agree. Frank can't rely on either of those guys, for the reasons you stated. And I think that is a major reason he is trying to sign a grad transfer this spring, even with 15 or 16 guys already expected to be on the team next year. Also, I have noticed that Frank likes to have a full roster. He'll try to fill all 13 scholarships every season, if he can.

Hinson is not on BB scholarship and has absolutely no bearing on bringing in another scholarship player. Apparently one of our current scholarship players won't be with the team next season.

It's also about upgrading the talent level. CFM knows how much it would mean to the program if he can put together another 20+ win season and compete for the SEC AND make the tourney this coming season. To do that, we do need another talented and experienced player.
