no, i think they both said they dont see him starting outside this year. he's 5'9 or less apparently, that coupled with being a true frosh it may be a bit much to expect him to beat out the veterans in front of him this year. a year in the nickel and practice against our wr's and he may be more than ready a year from now. i dont think anyone is already limiting him to simply being a nickel corner his whole career.

personally though i think its a risk reward as long as his technique is sound and he can tackle. his size may make him more apt to be boxed out or lose a jump ball, but if he can make plays that may outweigh a play or two given up like that as long as hes not getting torched.

gilmore did start game 1 vs nc state, at the same time he didnt have as much competition. cc whitlock was a true soph coming off a year at wr, and akeem auguste was soph. i think swearinger was the 4th cb that year in 2009. according to the 247 sports composite, gilmore was 34th nationally and jamyest was 74th.

So actually being able to field punts is not an impact?

I would say that as a rule of thumb, unless they are top 5* recruits you don't want to be relying on true freshmen.

It is great for sure. It means we have some good talent returning at the position, plus JUCOs to provide us with more experienced talent and depth. If we needed a true Freshman to start or even contribute significant minutes right away, that would not be good.

Punt returner and a reserve in Year One, in the rotation and possibly starting in Year two.

I don't see you making any smart ass comments about Jaylin Dickerson looking to potentially earn a starting job as a true freshman as one of our lowest rated recruits. And Jaymest will have an impact on special teams and I expect him to get some reps at the nickel on defense, just very little chance he beats out King, Lammons, and Fenton plus Nixon when it comes to starting CB.

TBS rated Gilmore a .98 compared to Williams a .96
Both high 4* players...... very close to being 5*

Gilmore was ranked the 6th best CB and 34th overall.
Williams ranked the 8th best FB and 74th overall.

Relax.

If Dickerson can make an impact as fast as he has so can Williams. No one probably thought Dickerson could do that at first.

He can definitely make an impact from the nickel considering most teams nowadays are going at least 3 wide. That was where honeybadger did his most damage at lsu.

Muschamp did. That's why he offered after seeing him in camp.

There is much less depth at safety than CB.

Yeah, I don't see him starting at CB to start this season for sure and think mostly he will be used in Nickel this season. However, I think next season after we lose King and Lammons that Williams will be in the mix and a star at CB. I hope he has an immediate impact on special teams to start the year for sure.

But this is all speculation.

Heard he was getting stronger before the wrist issue. Mike Williams abused him but Mike Williams was the best WR in college football last year and went up against Ohio St and Bama and physically abused those DBs as well and many of them are going in the 1st round today. No shame in Mike Williams beating you like you stole something, especially when King was in position all day and Watson was just locked in and Williams again the best WR in college football last year IMO.

Correct. King had a good year overall. Fortunately, he will not face a QB as good or a WR as good this year. When you have the two on the same team, you get posterized.

But I have no doubt that King will be stronger this year and better equipped to deal with physical WRs.

Yeah, lots to prove. He did lead the team in INTs. And in pass break-ups. And he was 6th in the team in tackles, second in assisted tackles.

But you are right, he was terrible. I doubt he plays at all.

Book is still open and "he was terrible" are two different things.

Also, not sure that ranking high on a somewhat bad defense is that much to brag about.

Haven't you had your butt handed to you enough recently? I'd think putting words into people's mouths would be a thing of the past for you.

Guess not.

If you are talking about the latest reincarnation of KarmaCocky, he done forfeited. His little chart got shot down and he has the sense not to defend it. There was nothing scientific about his method.

Just stating facts, SpaySC. King had a good year for a good defense. Not bad for his first year. Using your logic, there is nobody on the team that does not have a lot to prove.
