Based on what he's said I think they're looking at about 6+ million a year in pay for the players. They still have to pay coaches, rent out venues (he said he wants NBA venues), training staffs for injuries and such, etc. How are they going to outbid the NCAA or NBA for the best coaches? How are they going to get asses in the seat to pay for all this? There's no way the quality of play will be better than existing developmental leagues, and those don't come close to competing with college ball.

Lets be real here. Let's say you're a top 100 bball recruit. You can go anywhere you want.

1. Do we really think these guys aren't getting paid? Between whatever boosters are funneling them and everything they legally get from the schools, will you really be better off playing for the BBB league?
2. We've talked a lot about how clothing brands matter to recruits, recruits want to wear Nike, etc. You want to go wear Nike like Lebron or Under Armour like Curry, or do you want to go wear BBB?
3. Let's look at facilities. Think about the facilities top programs are building. The S&C, nutrition, medical, etc programs that colleges have. Are you going to be more impressed by a multi-million dollar facility designed to make you the best basketball player or negotiating a deal with Lavar Ball in a strip mall next to Papa Johns?
4. Exposure? How many household names are playing on any minor league team? How many are playing in college. You think you'll do better to ink some shoe deal with BBB out of high school, or do you go play at UK for a year and sign a million dollar deal with Nike after you leave school?
5. As mentioned, coaches. The best coaches will still be in the NBA and in college. You want a second rate coach getting you ready for the NBA?
6. What's your family going to say? Some might see that check, but some might realize that if you don't make the NBA you're going to be sitting high and dry when the Big Baller league casts you out and you're now ineligible for a Bball scholarship. I think for some of these families this is also their chance to have their first college grad and that matters to a lot of people.

I say best case scenario Lavar convinces a bunch of second rate players to go play bad basketball and maybe boosters have to increase the budget for basketball recruits. The league won't last 5 years if it ever even gets off the ground, and if it beats that expectation it's only because he's desperately sinking money into it, and he'll lose the shirt off his back by the time it's all said and done.
Devil is always in the details. Good concept and opportunity overall. But as you pointed out, execution will be key. Lot's of details to get through.

This will be XFL level stuff, if lucky. As someone mentioned, this a daddy-ball venture. Something to get his boys back in the US playing ball and to hopefully further their careers. I don't see it working out. (Of course, I couldn't care less either way)

Oh, my goodness. No, no, no, no, this 1) will most likely never happen and 2) if it does, it will fail miserably. I started to list all the very obvious reasons this won't work, but Yahoo did the heavy lifting for me:

It is by far the dumbest idea for a high school kid. So he is going to take 80 high school kids and ruin their chance for an education. How many of the top 80 high school kids make it to the NBA...not 80. Plus out of the 3K-10K they make there is room and board so if they fail to make the nba then they won't have the money to go to college so they end up working the drive thru at mcdonalds. OP great idea ...not even close.

This is where I think rules need to change. I think the term should be if you are taking money you can't play ball in College aka non-student status. It's why I think that players that opt out to go for the draft, but go DFA should have the option to come back to college as long as they don't take money when they get back on campus. This goes for all sports not just BBALL.

Think of it as a status
Student status, no contact with agents and/or taking money from third parties.

Yes, this is a stupid idea. Across the board. Something like this already exists, coached by actual rising NBA coaches. Who is going to coach this league? Where will there salary come from? Fact is, as pointed out in the article above, most of the one and dones WANT to go to places like Duke, UNC, Kansas, UCLA, etc for the exposure. No top prospect would consider this league. There's just no advantage to it over college or the G-league

This would leave the door wide open to pay people while they are professionals in order to have them come to your school after switching to student status. Maybe it wouldn't be on paper, but "hey so and so, here's a free car because you're a pro. By the way I'm a huge gamecock fan" *wink wink nudge nudge*

Good point!

It's tough to stop the cheating, these players are already getting cars from the coaches while in HS.

I guess mine is more for players that are at a school and want to go pro, but don't get drafted like they thought they would, and they should have the right to go back and play for the college they went to.

I have some possible solutions.

:Early LOI signing and go to the Semipro league.:

Pros
-Play right away if player decides to come back to go to college
-Get 4 years of eligibility

Con
-Coaching changes within the year could hurt. Could let them change a school only in that circumstance, but I say no to that, they have to stay at least a year, sit out, and follow normal transfer protocol for the year after.

:Don't commit.:

Pro
-Choose the school they want to go to.

Con
-Have to wait 2 years to get back to division 1

I say 2 years of division 2 because a player who does commit early would have to wait 2 years to switch schools.

It might work for a little bit, I’m sure there are people stupid enough to buy tickets....just like there are people stupid enough to buy BBB shoes and clothes.

Long term success? I doubt it. The NBA and other shoe companies will squash him, provided he doesn’t go under solely because people won’t care about his league.

He’s already ruined the chances his two remaining boys can play college ball by shipping them off to Lithuania, or wherever the hell they’re going. I’m sure he’ll ruin the college chances of a few more kids who are dumb enough to sign up for his glorified HS basketball league.

Lavar might make a little money for a while. The assortment of bookies, bagmen, and influence peddlers associated with AAU ball might make a little money for a while. Ultimately the ones who’ll really lose will be the kids who think the PT Barnum of basketball will get them to the Lakers or the Spurs.

This idea has been discussed a number of times on here. Ball can’t pay these players without securing TV rights, signing leases, etc etc. This has zero chance of happening.

Yes. The logistics of this are a nightmare. Further, Ball hopes to use NBA arenas to host the games. Don't see any chance of that happening.

There is simply no incentive for top recruits to go this route.
