Default ***Run This Town - Cross Country 2017 Season***

Probably over by now but here's the season opener preview

http://www.gamecocksonline.com/sport...090117aab.html

The South Carolina Gamecock cross country team starts its 2017 season at home, hosting the Carolina Challenge against a familiar set of regional foes at the Sandhill REC 5K course.

The women's 5K begins at 9 a.m., with the men's 5K following 40 minutes later. Both will run the same course that hosts the South Carolina High School League meet annually. The combined high school race is set to begin at 10:10 a.m.

The Gamecocks return five students who competed in last year's NCAA Southeast Regional, including the quartet that finished second through fifth on the team. Leading that group is sophomore Anna Kathryn Stoddard, a qualifier for USA Track & Field Junior Nationals at 5000m last spring. Also returning are junior Allison Muller, seniors Allie Sprague and Kaylee Wessel and sophomore Emily Crounse.

Joining that group on this championship-level course on Saturday are five freshman brought to campus by assistant track coach for distance Andrew Allden. Brooke Wilson, a top-15 finishers at the 2016 Foot Locker Midwest Regional while in high school, leads that group that includes Rachel Hensler, Kylee Yturralde, Sarah Riser and Heather Stone.

Competing against the Gamecocks in the Division I portion of Saturday's race is Charleston Southern, The Citadel, Clemson, Coastal Carolina, South Carolina State and Winthrop. Those six schools will also field men's team for the second race that begins at 9:30 a.m.

Full results will be posted to GamecocksOnline.com after the race, while TimingInc.com will also have live results.

Just checking the results and we finished first and Clemson second, but I don't think this is part of the Palmetto Series. Still,

Travelling to Athens which will provide a preview of the SEC Championship course

http://www.gamecocksonline.com/sport...090817aaa.html

South Carolina, coming off a win in the season-opening Carolina Challenge, hits its first long course of the season as part of the Bulldog SEC Preview, hosted by Georgia on the UGA Golf Course on Saturday morning.

The Gamecocks, who downed Clemson and five other in-state rivals on its home course, travels west three hours to the 2017 SEC Championships host Georgia for its second outing of the year. Six Gamecocks finished within 30 seconds of each other, including a pair of freshmen, Brooke Wilson and Rachel Hensler, who broke 19 minutes in their first collegiate 5K.

South Carolina also hopes to see its team finish as strong as it did a week ago when 11 of its 17 runners posted collegiate-best times at the distance, led by senior Kaylee Wessel’s time of 18:36.2, which shaved 30 seconds off her top time. Sophomore Anna Kathryn Stoddard led the team overall and finished just off her career-best 5K time.

Georgia hosts its first meet since 2007 on the UGA Golf Course on Saturday, with the women’s 6K event beginning at 9:15 a.m. EDT. Among the entrants getting a look at the championship course are Auburn, LSU, Tennessee and Texas A&M.

Live results can be found at PTTiming.com.

The next set of Gamecocks finished in a bunch, taking points 25-29 to edge out Tennessee for fourth place. Junior Allison Mueller (23:11.7) and senior Kaylee Wessel (23:14.5) led the group, while freshmen Heather Stone (23:17.6) and Brooke Wilson (23:18.8) came in steps later to round out the scoring five.

Sophomores Megan Buechler and Morgan Lee finished back-to-back in 67th and 68th, just ahead of classmate Leah Ford in 72nd.
