If we can just find someone to play point next season, we should be in good shape.

We were much further than a PG away from being a tournament team last season. Unless maybe that PG is Russel Westbrook.

My money would be on Panama... But I agree on Frinks body mass index... He definitely needs to upgrade his nutrition, strength and conditioning

He scored the 27 points against Argentina. Argentina is well known for playing some pretty good basketball.

According to Fran Francshilla at ESPN he's 6'6". He watched him play in the FIBA games this summer so he saw him up close.

To be fair he said 6'6 or 6'7 and he lauded the praise on Frink as well.

Oh yeah - he absolutely did fall in love with Frink's game. I just don't think he can play the post in college except on switches.

He can play the 4 all day long at the college level. Remember we played Thornwell in the post a good deal during our Final 4 run. He's never going to be a shot blocker but all he needs to do is stay in position because he isn't getting backed down.

I don't know how tall he actually is, but Frink looks taller than 6-6 to me. Maybe its his hair. Anyway, Frink has some good skills and is strong. He'll be a good player for Frank.

I just watched some video of him playing - FIBA games and his senior highlights at Roselle. He's no Thornwell, (not as good a shooter, as mobile or as quick) but he is taller than 6'6". He's got to be 6'8" at least and maybe 6'9". Unless all the opponents are teams with short players.

Fran Francshilla may be dead wrong about his height. Either way, it will be fun to watch how he does. Eric Cobb (or maybe it was Raymond Doby) was only about 6'7" but he was a load inside. Still, it is tough to play the post at that height every day because you will be matched against taller players. Thornwell was matched against guards because he actually played the wing but moved inside on mismatches.

People forget Thornwell was listed at 6'5 or 6'6 here but he measured in at 6'4 in the NBA Combine. Carerra was 6'5. Even at 6'6 or 6'7 he's got more than enough height to play the 4 at the college level. If he's 6'8 or 6'9 that's even better. The good news is that Frink is going to be able to overpower players, especially once he gets some time in our S&C program. Really interested to see how he looks.

It'd be nice if he turned into a David West / Glenn Davis -type player.

Play hard with ultimate effort on defensive end, and block out and fight for rebounds, and Frank Martin will love you long time. Frink is probably one of those hardnosed, blue-collar type workers and effort givers, along the lines of a bigger, heavier Carrera.

Carrera was around 6-5, but had freakish long arms and a great instinct for rebounding, and all-day long effort. He drove opposing teams - not players, teams - crazy with his work effort. Hopefully Frink will be a player along that type......maybe not in the sense of outside scoring like Mike developed over time, but in the sense of giving that rebounding effort in the paint.....

Carrera is one of my favorite Gamecock players. Loved his tenacity and competitive spirit.

From: https://www.thestepien.com/2018/06/2...t-impressions/

Alanzo Frink
Team: Republica Dominicana
Born: 1/19/2000, 18.4
Forward, 6’9″
Committed to South Carolina

Tough cover due to his combination of size, frame and body control. 6’9” with a big body that can push people on the interior.
Fluid handler for his size, can attack a closeout, and take it all the way to the rim. Has an intriguing combination of power and mobility to push defenders when he goes downhill.
Aggressive scorer and rebounder, and is completely unafraid of contact. 8.7 rebounds per game.
Has some perimeter skills and a jumper. Can hit threes with range, and knows how to pass when posting up.
Not super efficient in his role as a go-to scorer for Republica Dominicana. 25% on threes. Negative assist to turnover ratio. Only 56.4% at the free throw line.
Overall: Republica Dominicana had Frink running a one-man show on offense. Frink’s efficiency wasn’t the best but he showed an intriguing combination of power, mobility and fluidity with the ball in his hands. It will be interesting which role he plays for South Carolina starting next season. I think he could be a matchup nightmare at the college level playing at the four or five.
