My issue with Martin's recruiting and management isn't the transfers in. There's going to be a normal--repeat normal--amount of loses of recruited players and transfers should help ease that. The idea, I would think, is that a transfer like Campbell would allow a player you recruited to develop without the pressure of playing immediately. The problem is, those players are either not developing or not lasting around long enough. So this becomes a plug and play team without elite talent, which is hard to watch at times.

And this season wasn't great but it would've sucked hard without Booker and Wesley.

I don't know. Maybe I should just get used to seeing an entirely new basketball team every year and not know who half the players are? I don't think anyone would've cared about the transfers last year if we didn't turn the ball over like it was our job. With Frank, maybe accepting this and that every offseason will be like musical chairs until we field a team will make news of so and so transferring out or being kicked off the team less frustrating?
I think the roster turnover is nothing more than transitional roster improvement. As long as next yearís team is better than this year, then itís a net positive. At this point, we just canít go out and bring in top 100 players. Like it or not, we better get used to it till we have a roster of 8-9 solid contributors. College basketball is different now and Frank is having to add these graduate transfers trying to improve the roster. Muschamp is doing the same thing beinging in quality graduate transfers.

As Frank said today, the guys who played the most, and were not seniors, are coming back. If we can get some good PG play, next season will be better.

And good guard play starts with Gravett’s replacement. Hopefully Campbell will be that guy.
Gravett is just not a D-1 PG.

Understatement... He is not even close to being a point guard

Well, we got Campbell, Moss and Cousinard to try to figure it out.

The most similar situation I can think of for South Carolina to this one is Ty Johnson.

Averaged 3 pts a game as a backup PG at Villanova. Transferred because he didn't have prospects for being anything but a backup PG. Started at South Carolina and averaged about 10 and 3.5 a game. Was solid, but not spectacular.

If Campbell is good enough to challenge Gravett and improve the defense, it will be worthy addition. If not, we know he can handle a backup role at a high major and we need one of those too.

It's unclear whether there is any opportunity cost.

I guess the only question is whether Burns, Bandoo, and Felton all want to come and Bowen and Silva both play for us next year. I guess that might lead to us passing on Felton? Or maybe something else would be worked out.

That's what I'm coming to terms with. Football I feel like you have more leeway due to sheer numbers, but I always just thought the way you would have to win at USC in basketball is identifying players overlooked by major programs and developing them and occasionally landing a big time local guy. Maybe the way to do it is to occasionally land a local talent, have depth with the diamonds in the rough types who will transition out frequently if not developing, and adding transfers yearly to bolster the product.

I hate to bash on players, but last year wasn't that bad. If we'd had a point guard or even just limited stupid turnovers, we'd been a bubble team I think.

WE had one he was just on the bench, same one dropping 3's and dimes on Duke and Marquette last March.

I think there was some talent on last year’s team but they were just not nearly consistent enough. To me, Kotsar was probably the biggest disappointment last year.
