Pho Viet is good for Vietnamese (obviously, again). I believe they opened up a location in or near 5 points, but the one I've been to is out on Decker.

There's also a lot of Korean places on Decker as well, but for some reason none of it really appeals to me....might be something about how they're spiced, etc. I've just never had good Korean food. Of course, the first time I've had thai I went away unimpressed, but that was also likely due to not being able to figure out what I wanted based on the menu descriptions.

The main Korean dishes that I eat are bulgogi (seasoned beef/pork with rice and vegetables) and Bibimbop (sizzling hot stone bowl with similar ingredients) but the BEST is the side dishes, mostly vegetables like kimchi, sweet cucumber, black beans, etc. I love me.some korean cuisine!

I usually eat at the O-Bok, the Kimchi and the Arirang.

362d Signal Company, Yongsan Garrison, Seoul, Korea '79-'80...
With bulgogi being the exception, I'm still afraid of Korean food..
(That 'winter' kimchi could kill at 40 paces!)

The best Chinese food is Chen’s by Murray’s in Cayce. The best Burbon chicken I’ve ever eaten.

I love Chinese but GOOD Chinese is hard to find in the Upstate area. There are so many “shopping plaza” places around now it’s kinda like fast food.
New China in Spartanburg is probably the only cuisine left around here. I hear there are a couple around Greenville but I haven’t found em yet.

Go try Lieus. It's excellent. It's right where 385 comes into Woodruff.

ehhhhhhhh Lieu's is only ok.

The owner of Lieu's also owns Japanese Izakaya maybe 1.5 or 2 miles down the road on Woodruff and that place is so-so as well.

I've had bulgogi (which I liked) and my wife likes bibimbop but it's not something we crave, ya know? I'd definitely be willing to try it again if the situation presents itself, but I don't think there's a lot of places out in Lexington. We're excited that we've got a "high end" Thai place and a Poke Bros

I went to a Korean place probably a decade ago (my God I'm old) on Decker with people from work. We sat down and they started bringing out all these little dishes of food. I was pretty adventurous and tried a bit of everything until I tried something that tasted like saltwater and had the consistency of little tree roots. I looked closer and they were some sort of preserved minnows. That kinda dunked my enthusiasm in cold water, so to speak.

I do want to try making bulgogi at home, since it seems farly straightforward. I don't think me and my fam are much into kimchi though, but that seems to be the main thing that Americans know about Korean food.

The little minnows are anchovies I think. Definitely not my favorites but I can tolerate them.

I made bulgogi once and it was close to what I've had in the restaurants but the secret ingredient as told to me by a Korean colleague is coca cola... I know, right??!

It' almost impossible to find, period, the reason being,so many will eat the crap that's available and call it good enough for a return trip.

I've only eaten in two good Chinese restaurants EVER, that I can recall...places brave enough to serve authentic, and if you don't like it, don't come back. Most areas don't have enough knowledgeable enough to support it.
